Hello.

My name is Jordan. My girlfriend Chen and I live in Israel. We have read Daisho (my girlfriend bought it in Israel), and we both fell in love with it. Sadly, we couldn't purchase any other books of yours in Israel. But my parent got me some of your books in Holland. I now have seven books by Stan Sakai. The knowledge of martial arts that is shown in the Usagi Yojimbo books is surprising when you find out that you haven't practiced in any martial art. And you should start practicing a martial art (I recommend a Koryu Bujutsu). You will love it. Your drawings are marvelous, and my girlfriend wants to be your student. Where did you learn to draw comic books? Usagi volume 1 is very hard to obtain. Where can it be found? Are there any Usagi videos to be found?

I have a degree in drawing and painting with an emphasis on life drawing. My storytelling is inspired more by film than comic books, though I have been reading the latter as far back as I remember.

There are no Usagi videos. As for books, log onto the Usagi Dojo www.usagiyojimbo.com. There are links to a few recommended on-line booksellers who could probably help you out. I am also a frequent logger onto their discussion page.

Dear Stan.

Today, I mourn the passing of Lord Ikeda, a warrior with the patience of a spider and a heart of polished ruby. From a general to a rebel to a father to a hero, he exemplified the inner tenacity of spirit that few people can have, and yet he had the wisdom to see the true priorities of life. In the end, he kept true to himself and fulfilled the highest ideal of a samurai: an honorable death in the defense of a just cause he was determined to see to the end, regardless of the cost.

Now my concern turns to his family. What will happen to them? Will Lord Noriyuki's promise of a position for Motokazu in his court stand? If so, who will train him, and will Noriyuki sponsor his education?

Stan, this is yet another magnificent and bittersweet end of another stellar work. May we see many more its equal.

Many of you have asked about Ikeda's family. Their fate will be revealed, though not in the near future.

In June, keep your eyes peeled for the Oni Press Color Special 2001, In which Stan illustrates a Queen & Country story written by Greg Rucka and colored by Tom Luth. Then, in July, young Usagi stars in "Usagi and the Kami of the Pond,” appearing in our very own Dark Horse Maverick 2001 annual anthology, which. also sports a dynamite Usagi cover drawn by Frank Miller! And last but far from least, be sure to check out The Treehouse of Horror #7, coming from Bongo Comics in September, and featuring a 15-page Simpsons story, entitled “I’m Not in Springfield Anymore,” written and drawn by Stan.
