A paper is found on the wounded man that contains an oath between a the lords of a mysterious cabal known as The Conspiracy of Eight. Usagi and Sanshobo direct the temple priests as they repulse an attack by the wounded man's pursuers, but later find that the samurai and his watcher have been killed by an unknown assassin, and the mysterious paper, stolen.
