Story Synopsis

In this story, Usagi is hired by Lady Koriko in order to retreive the sword of her late husband, Nagao, who died recently in a nearby village. Usagi then goes to this village to try to get some information on the location of the sword, only to find out that a woman, Atsuko, has the daisho.

Usagi finds out through Atsuko's brother that she is in fact Nagao's lover, and later on discovers that she refuses to give back the sword, on the account that the sword is all she has to remember Nagao by. Usagi, instead of taking the sword by force, decides to let her think about giving it up for the night.

After Usagi leaves, the brother battles his sister for the sword and and accidentily kills her. He then takes the sword and brings it to Usagi for the reward he was offering. Usagi finds out soon enough how the brother got the sword from his sister and goes out to try to find him him, only to find out that some thieves already found him and beat him up.

It is also revealed that it was in fact Atsuko's brother who was originally involved in the murder of Nagao, a fatal attempt at robbing him. Usagi then fight the thieves and takes Atsuko's brother to the magistrate. He returns the sword to Lady Koriko, but makes sure that the two lovers stay near to one another for all eternity: Atsuko is buried next to Nagao.
