Story Synopsis

Usagi narrates a grim tale in which he has set out alone to rescue the only child of his lord. Kidnapped by a great demon, he has promised half of his kingdom to anyone that can return his daughter unharmed.

Waylaid by monsters and demons, Usagi fights his way out in true samurai fashion. No foul being can stand against a true samurai! He travels for days past the bodies of lesser warriors and disposes of an Octopus demon, a Centipede demon and forty thousand smaller monsters and still manages to arrive unscathed at the lair of the greater demon that has kidnapped the princess.

Not tricked by the demon's shape changing ability, Usagi fights bravely and fiercely finally slaying the beast and rescuing the daughter of his lord. Nobly, he declines her hand knowing it is his karma to remain a lone wanderer and returns her to her father.

With a tale that is as tall as his topknot, at least Usagi can keep small children entertained.

Note: In the last frame of this story, Usagi promises to tell the children after dinner how he ran into "the infamous cheese-dip wanderer" which fuels the rumors that Usagi has actually met Groo or at least knows stories about him.
