Miyamoto Usagi

Kitsune
Story Synopsis
Gen has lost the trail of Kitsune's co-conspirator; he returns to the place where he left Usagi, only to find the aftermath
of a vicious fight! He digs through the wreckage and finds Usagi--who has been dyed entirely green by a leaking vat. (Green Usagi
is apparently very scary...) Usagi is furious that Sohaku captured Kitsune; he and Gen head for Sohaku's hideout at top speed.
Meanwhile, Sohaku's men are having a tough time keeping Kitsune under control; Chobei insists that Sohaku shouldn't trouble
himself, but Sohaku wants the talisman back very badly. They haul Kitsune inside the house, just as Usagi and Gen arrive. The two
try to bluff their way in, but they're recognized almost immediately, and a fight starts.
Sohaku is getting rough, when a horrible green demon bursts into the room! Sohaku flees, terrified, as Usagi and Gen wipe out
the rest of the gangsters. Sohaku hides in his inner rooms, frantically burning incense and candles to drive away the evil spirits.
His ivory crab rolls into the room, and he joyfully grabs it--only to be confronted by Usagi! His superstitious terror gets the better
of him, and he dies of a heart attack. Gen and Kitsune join him, and it looks like everything's okay--except that Chobei
arrives with reinforcements! Our heroes are trapped in this small room and it looks bad, until Chobei orders all the gangsters out.
It turns out that he had wanted to take over the gang for a while, and figured that if he hired Kitsune to steal Sohaku's talisman,
Sohaku would get so agitated that he'd make mistakes. Usagi is outraged; Chobei, unimpressed, points out that he's willing to let the
three of them live. As they leave, Kitsune hands the crab talisman to Chobei; "Such a little thing...but yes, I can truly feel its power," he says.
Kitsune gives Usagi and Gen some of Chobei's money, as payment for helping her out. She says that she's traveling west, and Gen decides to go with her; Usagi, however, keeps heading for Kitanoji.
