Highlights from the Stan Sakai/UY Dojo Events at FANIME CON 2K!

Welcome, Otakus, to the UYD/Fanime 2K Web site! Here you'll find the highlights from the UYD Event at Fanime Con 2000 (Feb. 24-27) in Santa Clara, CA. This was probably the biggest Usagi Yojimbo Dojo bash to date. Stan Sakai was invited to the con a Guest of Honor through UYD-Shinobi Josh Ford. With many UYD-Members in the Bay Area/Silicon Valley, this was a perfect opportunity for a UY Dojo Event. Fanime Con's main emphasis was anime/manga stuff, but Usagi and Stan took in a sizeable piece of the action, with signings, panels, and a UY Dojo Dinner Party on Saturday night at the House of Genji in San Jose. A great time was had by all Usagi fans who attended. Several UYD Retainers were in attendance this year: UYD-Shogun Todd and UYD-Daimyo Brian Nutter, who with the help of Josh Ford and Tomoko Shintani, made it all come together; UYD-Hatamoto Don "Dusty" Rhoades; and UYD-Shinobi's Kim "Leonardo" Garvin and Wendy "Aignatius" Peabody made special appearances.

The Guest of Honor

Stan Sakai enjoyed a multitude of fan interactions at his two panels (one Saturday and one Sunday) as well as at his booth, which was mobbed by anime/manga fans. You wouldn't expect an anthropomorphic comic to be such a big hit at an anime con, but Usagi definitely was. Even the official Fanime Con t-shirts had Usagi on the front. And the Con Security shirts had a full Usagi on the back! (search this site for pics). Top it all off with a large Dojo presence, and you had one of THE biggest UYD events in history. Period. It will be tough to top this one! The image to the left shows Stan at the Saturday panel.
