Mid-Ohio Con 2000 Reports

Keith Gill: I was only able to attend Saturday morning. I wish I could have gone there Sunday, as that was the day of the panel with Stan Sakai, Sergio Aragonés, and Jeff "Bone" Smith! I did stay long enough to pick up some nice art

Robbie Lewis: I know how you feel. With a sick wife who couldn't go at the last minute (she was looking forward to meeting the Lost in Space people), I couldn't stay too long, only about four or five hours. I also remembered that I needed to take my camera... after about 1 1/2 hours away from home! ::sigh:: I made up for my stupidity by finally getting one of Stan's original sketches – a very nice Usagi, smiling, with an "EEP!"-ing tokage . Going out to have it framed this week.

On the "Con Crew" t-shirts, I had been wanting to sign up for the con crew to help out my favorite convention, but when I couldn't afford the whole weekend trip, I decided that I had better not sign up for something that I can't do.

Then, I see the beautiful art Stan put on the shirts. ::double sigh!:: A very nice gift from Stan and Roger Price.

Mike Kurtzman: Well, fortunately I did take my camera and took 17 pictures while I was there. Once I get the rest of my roll used up, I'll be sure to get them developed and scan them and send them to Todd (see pics above).

I too got a nice piece of original art today along with the 2 issues I've been missing for a awhile and one of those UY pins (thanks Stan!).

Erik Coons: As a recipient of your generosity I am deeply grateful for your kindness. I will be having the picture you drew at
MidOhio Con *framed* and placed on my wall, never to be sold (mineminemineminemineminemine) ^.^; I thank you and the bouncy hugging redhead thanks you. (She just couldn't wait till Christmas to let me have the sketch. Have a happy holidays everyone.

Tim Farley:  I didn't get back to the show on Sunday either. I did manage to pickup a few missing issues from my Usagi collection and a nice piece of original artwork (Usagi testing his blades on bamboo) I was really hoping to pickup a page from one of the books but my wife had me on budget. I guess I'll keep watching the darkhorse gallery until some new work goes up for sale AND I can afford it.... It's gonna be a cold day I tell ya...

Stan Sakai: I got back home last night after a great time at the Mid-Ohio-Con. Thank you to all the Dojo members who made it there – especially Keith who flew all the way from Texas to be there just Saturday morning.

The Sunday program with Sergio [Aragonés] and Jeff Smith went well – even I enjoyed it and it went by much too fast.

I also managed to get a lot of work done. Sergio and I flew to Ohio next to two former Playmates – one of them a Playmate of the Year – and as soon as we boarded the plane we both took out paper and started drawing. At least, that's our story and we're sticking to it. But I did thumbnails for UY 47, plotted and thumbnailed 48 and even pencilled the cover for 48. I realized later that 48 already has a cover – part 2 of the double wraparound kite drawing.

If you live in the area but have never been to the con, I encourage you to go one year. It's a very friendly con and unlike San Diego, there is time to talk with your favorite comic book creator and others. The new con venue is wonderful with a great shopping area right across the street.
