Usagi contest for the week of February 8-14th

Postby Warren » Thu Feb 09, 2017 14:04 +0000

The return of the revenge of the duel strikes back! For this challenge I want to revisit the duel scavenger hunt that got derailed by the festive season. :) The opponents might be a little easier to name (ha!) so this time, for that and other reasons, there are ten panels, and I'll try to make you work for them!

Here are the duels:

Image

For each, in order, I want to know:

- The name of the story the duel appears in.
- The page number of the story the panel appears on.
- The name of Usagi's opponent, or the name of their association if no personal name is given.
- The name of the weapon used by Usagi's opponent. The Japanese name, if possible, please. :)
- The odd one out of the ten duels.

Be specific! :) There's at least one panel that will be used as a tie-breaker, if the situation arises. And of course, PM me your answers.

The prize... I've thought about this, and the only Usagi-related prize I can really offer is a custom sculpt. Any character from Usagi Yojimbo, no matter how obscure, in any scale up to 1/24, or approximately 6" tall.
It might be a little presumptuous, seeing as my only effort shown here is still very much... 'in progress'. Here's a few examples of other things I've done in smaller scales, just to show what might be expected.

Thanks guys! And thanks to Slashuur for the first set of answers. Don't forget there's still a day to submit the list!

Also, a note about one of the requirements in the list. 'The odd one out of the ten duels' is not very clearly worded. I'm asking which of the ten duels is the unusual one; which one doesn't really fit with the others. I hope that helps matters. :)

... and the winner of this week's challenge is Slashuur. Congrats! :D

The answers, in the order the panels are presented, are:

One of the four Shi assassins in Shi part II, page 11, using a kusarigama.

Young Tomoe Ame, in A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Tournament, page 4, using a bokken.

Jei in Blade of The Gods, page 14, using a yari.

Shubo in The Duel, page 16, using a katana.

A Neko ninja in The Ghost In the Well, part II, page 16, using a tekko-kagi on a chain.

Kazehime in Kazehime, page 19, using Komori wing blades, or katana no tsubasa.

Jotaro, in Usagi And The Tengu, page 2, using a bokken.

A Tengu summoned by Goyemon, in The Doors, page 24, using a katana.

Kenichi in Samurai! part IV, page 8, using a bokken.

Gen in Kitsune Gari, page 14, using a katana.

And the unusual duel, the odd one out, is the fight with Gen in Kitsune Gari. The reason is (spoilers, on the offchance!):

It's not a duel with Usagi. It's a nine-tailed trickster fox in disguise!

Congrats. I thought the one that didn't belong was the sparring match between Usagi and Jotaro.

Every other fight was real, right?

Yup, they were. :) To be fair, you have a point in that the sparring with Jotaro isn't an all-out fight, but I also wondered how many would've thought the kid-Usagi fight was the odd one out. Though I still think they were well outmatched by the one I settled on!
