The 35th Anniversary Celebration of Stan Sakai’s Beloved Rōnin Continues with Usagi Yojimbo Color Classics
Building upon the success of the all-new, full-color Usagi Yojimbo comic book series launched in June, IDW Publishing will revisit some of the most memorable adventures of Miyamoto Usagi, the rabbit rōnin, beginning with Usagi Yojimbo Color Classics #1 in January 2020.
The original early issues of Stan Sakai’s acclaimed long-running series will thrill longtime fans and newcomers alike – not only with vibrant new colors, but supported by brand-new bonus content, providing a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Usagi and rare artwork.
Look for Usagi Yojimbo Color Classics #1 – featuring an all-new Chibi Usagi back-up story – in January!

Good find.
I wonder if these will be single issue releases? Since it's only collecting "some" of his adventures, I hope this doesn't supplant the original plan to color and release the entire back catalog, and is instead a way to drum up interest while they work on getting everything colored. Also, will Tom Luth be doing the coloring, or can we expect somebody else to help tackle this project?

Also, about the chibi Usagi project slated for next year -- is it going to be a separate series entirely or an extra in this?

This sounds like a great way to get even more Usagi stories in the hands of new readers who wouldn't normally pick up b/w books.
I'd imagine they are doing what Kyle outlined, getting some mileage out of the new color files, and drumming up interest for the collections that will be printed in color.
Of course I'll go along for the ride, especially with the promise of new backup stories.

Dug this up when googling Usagi Yojimbo Color Classics:
http://www.comicon.com/2019/10/08/nycc- ... -20-years/"Sonic and Usagi Yojimbo will both be representing IDW at Halloween ComicFest with free issues of each. The Usagi book will reprint a favorite of Barber’s, the Zylla story, in full color. There will be new Usagi and old, with Usagi Yojimbo: Color Classics, printing the original strips in color for the first time.
Turtles colorist Ronda Pattison will tackle colorizing this classic series."

I'm certainly looking forward to this. I'll take Usagi in whatever format he gets published in.
Speaking of the Halloween ComicFest issue, did anyone get a copy? My shop didn't get any of their Usagi books this week!

"An all-new Chibi Usagi back up story"?
That's news to me.

We also did not get our HCF issues (though we got issue #5) but the distributor swears we will have them before the 26th

Leftover info from the HCF press release maybe?

Sonic and Usagi Yojimbo will both be representing IDW at Halloween ComicFest with free issues of each.
You know, I think there should be a crossover between the two series.
Also, isn't the chibi-Usagi thing the Usagi project that is slated to come out before the series focusing on Usagi's supporting cast?

Forbidden Planet told me to come to the store on 10/26, as that's the official date of the Halloween Comicfest

As much as I love black and white, I'm getting excited to see these old stories in color. They'll feel brand new all over again.

32 pages, so it sounds like a comic instead of a trade paperback.....
