Stan Sakai wrote:I really did enjoy redrawing the story. There were quite a few panels where I thought to myself, "Why did I do that?" or "That didn't make sense."

Even that first page--the title page--"Why did I place the characters so low in the panel? You can hardly see the stream."

I seem to remember Herge undergoing a similar task, when he redrew several of Tintin's earlier adventures using his evolved style.

I don't know, I kind of like the first one better, mainly because of the swords. I'd still like to see the other two some where in the book, maybe on the back cover, or the interior cover.

The first one, the one with the falling ginko leaves, is the cover of the book. The other two are the art for the hardcover tip-in plate, only one of which will be used. The other will probably make it to the outside back cover of the UY comic book.

Hold on...what's all this about two possible endings to Book 23?? What's the difference between the one from the actual comic and the other one?

They are referring to the alternate ending Stan wrote for issue #102

USAGI YOJIMBO SKETCHBOOK
issue: 4 (2007)
"Mayuni" (10 pages)
story and art: Stan Sakai
alternate ending to Dark Horse #102 “The Killer”

You can probably figure out what is differant reading though this old thread....

Wow...had no idea that existed before now :) Very interesting!

I myself am not sure on which ending I'd prefer...but, I dunno, I suppose it's kind of right to just keep the one that's in the actual comic. Maybe it's because I'm a bit of a purist, but I don't like things being changed around too much. I realize that Stan may have written both of these endings simultaneously (or at least close to each other), but I still think putting one of them into an actual issue, and leaving one for a sketchbook, implies that he's made a choice, and I'd like him to stick to it.

But that's just me :?

Bought the book today. Stan, I LOVE the "Chibi-Tomoe" image on the back cover. :)
(Is there any chance it'd ever be for sale?)

Did anyone else notice Noriko in the background on page 12?

I saw that too. Although I didn't read any of the color specials before this trade was released, so I'm not sure whether or not that is a new addition. Is it?

On a side note, I didn't read Chanoyu before (or any of the newer issues for that matter) and I must say that it was outstanding. It just makes me want the next trade to come out sooner. Another year to go...

I received the hardcovers today, so I will have some at San Diego. I also got UY #113.

Props to Steve for posting the scan for my "Panel of the Month" to the Tomoe Trade.

Steve, you rock, as always.

Just a stellar page, BTW. Still sends me every time I look at it. :)

Well there are like SEVEN fantastic stories going on, which pushes the story rating to the top simply for value's sake. As for the art you have the fantastic changes to the first Colour Special. Plus I can set the page I bought to centre stage. So the art gets five bullets as well.

It's simply perfection.
