Mine shows as in my next shipment from DCBS! I am very excited about that because the sale price was only $50, and I thought that was too good to be true and that I would somehow be allocated out of my copy. Now the only problem is that my orders always ship on the last week of each month, with the previews catalog, since I opt for once a month shipping. I won't have my copy until January, but I'm still very happy about it.

I sent a request to DCBS for early shipment. I hope they will fulfill my Christmas wish.

Is there any word on whether further volumes will be collected in a similar format?

Dark Horse and I talked about collecting 3 trade paperbacks into a "brick", but this would be as a paperback and not a hard cover, and would not be in the larger format as is the Fantagraphics collection. I guess we'll see how this new collection sells to determine if it is worthwhile to pursue.

I liked this opportunity to own the earlier editions from Fantagraphics, rather than having to dish out so much more for them since I was collecting the signed hardcovers. Those early ones can be troublesome to find and expensive when you do come across them. This was definitely a nice alternative.

I hope to have a simple sketch and autograph in mine if I ever have the fortune to meed Sensei. Working on trying to make Phoenix this year.

While reading this post my doorbell rings......A heavy box from Amazon what could it be ? Usagi Yojimbo Special Edition ! Its even better then I imagined , I love the larger format and the premium paper. I Hope Dark Horse follows suit and continues this format with more trades. This is how the single issues are viewed and how it should be archived forever. I remember years ago thinking Stan's work should be collected like the Carl Barks library and it finally has ! :D

I would welcome such trades in any format. That said, it would be very desirable if the DH "brick" could be a similar format as the Fantagraphics collection, or at least size. I might guess such a format doesn't align marketing-wise with the signed LE hardcovers. Is there any particular reason why the larger format isn't feasible?

Just got mine yesterday and it is even better looking that I had hoped. The paper quality is fantastic and I love the solid blacks on the pages. Plus the extras are A+.

And since people are talking about other editions, I think Dark Horse would be crazy to do only paperbacks and no hardcovers. I already have the paperbacks so having them bound in a gorgeous hardcover was what made me buy the Fantagraphics special edition. Maybe they could offer both?

UY Special Edition signed?

Postby emedclimb » Thu Dec 16, 2010 11:10 +0000

I've seen so many different advertisements for the UY Special Edition. Some list it as being signed. Does anyone know if there are two versions (signed and unsigned) or are they all the same? thanks.

I have not signed any of these except the one that I received about a month ago, and that is still in my studio.

We were going to do a signed edition, but decided against it because the regular edition is expensive enough and we were already behind schedule with it.

special edition

Postby Trevis Woods » Thu Dec 16, 2010 15:42 +0000

Just got mine...waiting for me on the front step as I got home from work. Amazing! Love the high quality and this is officially my first hardback Usagi other than Yokai. I may have just been sold on getting future Darkhorse editions in HC also after seeing how nice this is. I love the trades for taking them on the go and not worrying about damage or loss cause the price is cheaper but wow this is some nice stuff from Fantagraphics. I do agree Darkhorse should do the same thing Fantagraphics just did. This has made my day...thanks Stan for the constant entertainment and quality each month!

I may have spoken too soon... my copy of this turned up today! The question is do I leave it shrinked, or open it and look at it? ;)
