I hope Stan can stay active for this long:

One thing that makes Mizuki's longevity as an artist especially remarkable is that he lost his dominant arm while he was in the Japanese army during World War II and had to train himself to draw with the other one (I remember watching a documentary about Frank Frazetta that discussed how he trained himself to draw with his left arm after losing the ability to draw with his right arm due to a stroke in which someone said that that's an unusual thing to be able to do).

While I've know of Mizuki-san for a long time, I've finally just began reading some of his works.

I read the first volume of Showa: A History of Japan. I gave it to a friend afterwords. He said he drew his cartoon when he lived in Japan in the 70s.

Enjoy!

A volume of the Kitaro volume is also available in English, I recommend it. One of the characters from Kitaro appears in Showa as a narrator (which Frederik Schodt compares in his foreword to Donald Duck appearing in a Disney history comic book).
