Weekly Trivia Contest 10th August

Post by Mayhem »

Okay, so I had an idea for a question, but it'll take a little time to prepare, so I think I'll get it setup and ready for the next time I have to ask :)

Something simple... or not... for this week. For that reason, everyone is allowed ONE GUESS ONLY, so be sure before contacting me heh.

And the question is... which Usagi collection was the third to be published in hardcover format?

I have an entry so far! :)

To be honest, I didn't think it was a tricky question when I set it, but now I've actually worked out what the answer is... maybe it is a bit heh, because it wasn't the answer I thought it was when I posted the question! Still, this is the trivia contest, and we don't usually make things too easy ;)

I gave it a try while looking for the numbers I had to add to Steve's list. I know it's been discussed before, but I couldn't figure out why I had first and second prints of hardcovers. :? The bibliography only has tpb release dates listed. Maybe the hardcovers could be added after the contest.

I suppose I could always just pic one of the early books at random.

I remember Stan commenting on this a while back, and it was not the one I originally thought it was.

I've had a second guess! Hopefully a few more by the end heh...

I'll throw a clue out here. To my knowledge, the TPB is the registered first printing, the hardcover is the registered second printing, for those hardcovers that have them split listed as such, because some of the hardcovers came out way after the original TPB printing(s).

And a third guess. And all three are different answers. So this is going to be interesting heh...

This isn't the Academy Awards! :P

Anyhow, I was giving it until the end of play in the UK today, but I probably won't get any more entries.

A number of entries, and only one of them correct. So congrats to GAFFEY! Steve H also got it right, but squandered his contest guess before realising what the correct answer was.

The answer was... Book 5: Lone Goat and Kid.

It's reasonably well known that the first hardcover released was book 4 (Dragon Bellow Conspiracy). However, as it turns out via checking the printing dates on the inside cover, the order of release for the other early hardcovers appears to be rather a muddled order, but there is sense to it. The actual sequence was 4251637. And then 8,9,10 etc in order.
