I sent in the art for UY 155: The Secret of the Hell Screen, an Inspector Ishida Mystery. Here is one of the pages. The storm that hit at the end of UY 151 is still raging.

The art was done on 2-ply 500 series 11x17 inch Strathmore bristol with a 10x15 inch image area.

Penciled with a 3 mm 2H mechanical pencil lead, then some lines were reinforced with a 5 mm HB pencil.

The lettering was done with a Rotring Art Pen Medium point, word balloons with a Koh-i-Noor ArtPen, and borders with a 3.5 technical pen.

The first wave of inking was drawn with my Koh-i-Noor ArtPen (discontinued) and Badger Black Opaque ink (old formula). The blacks were spotted with a Pentel brush pen filled with the Badger ink.

Before inking, though, perspective lines were determined using a vanishing point. You can't fake perspective.

Textures were added with a newer ArtPen that has not been broken in, so has a more rigid line.

Erased with a Magic Rub eraser, and the page is done.

this is why i love stan's art. that cross hatching etc don't really turn up on new digital work.

it's sad to think the next generation of artists would be pretty much exclusively digital.
