Hi Stan,
Just wondering if you might get DH to spring for a trip out here to Australia some time in the near future. Summer is just about upon us - maybe you can wait till it gets colder over there then avoid the winter for a while.
I can have a look around to see when the next lot of comic conventions are coming up if it makes a difference.
Cheers

I've always wanted to visit Australia but have no plans at the moment to do so. In fact, I'm traveled out for awhile and will be staying at home trying to catch up on deadlines.
Editor Diana vacationed in Australia and New Zealand a couple of years ago in January. She also was a guest at a comic convention there. She raved about it and is trying to find a way to get back.
On another subject, how is that new plastic money working out?

It's a tough life. All those deadlines, flights to catch, airline food. Truly a herculean effort. :pStan Sakai wrote:I've always wanted to visit Australia but have no plans at the moment to do so. In fact, I'm traveled out for awhile and will be staying at home trying to catch up on deadlines.
It's a long way to swim. I recommend air travel. It seems to work almost all the time.Stan Sakai wrote: Editor Diana vacationed in Australia and New Zealand a couple of years ago in January. It's not too bad now that they have that 'starts to disintegrate after exposure to sunlight' thing sorted out. I wish I could tell you more about it, but I seem to have difficulty getting ahold of any.Stan Sakai wrote: On another subject, how is that new plastic money working out?

Plastic Money?[/quote]
Australia has started using plastic bills. Someone from Oz had shown me a few at San Diego. It lasts longer than paper money and won't jam in vending machines. It looks pretty neat. There is a little clear "window" on the printed bills.
I believe Mexico has just begun this as well.

Plastic Money
I saw a story on "polymer notes" a couple of weeks ago and thought it was a pretty cool idea. If I remember correctly 15-20 countries currently use some sort of plastic money. One of the benefits to using plastic is that whole recycling thing. No more torn bills from the grocery store.

Yeah there are a few countries taking up the practice.
That means that Japan no longer has the most difficult currency to counterfeit (just in case anyone wanted to update their trivial pursuit questions).
The little clear window thing replaces the watermark that the old currency used to have. We also have $1 and $2 coins - gotta say that is SOOOO much more convenient than bills. Especially given what inflation has done to the country.
In light of your total lack of travel plans, Stan - does Usagi have any plans at any stage to encounter any Australian animals? We have more weird creatures than just about anywhere in the world. I'm sure there's fodder for a story somewhere amongst that lot.
I know aussie animals are hardly likely to be encountered in medieval Japan, but hey, neither are rhinos right?

Yeah, or just have some appearing in the background - I've always thought platypi would make cool furry characters.
