Post by Blackfaith »

For the last few years my husband has bought me an Usagi Yojimbo calendar from the USA for christmas but he can't seem to find one this year for 2007. Is there one being made?

That really does stink. I wouldn't mind having one.

It is too late for 2007, but maybe if enough Dojo members are interested in it, maybe we can all work together, with Stan, to produce (design, finance and publish) an Official UY Dojo calander in time for 2008.

Any ideas involving Stan supplying all new artwork are most likely out of the question, but that still leaves a lot of room for potentially neat and/or original ideas.

One thought which has been nagging me has been for a calendar re-printing an early 12 page Fantagraphics era Usagi story with each page being a reproduction of a differant foreign edition, along with bibliographical information concerning Usagi's publishing history in each country or language. There are a couple minor problems with this idea, including the fact that not all of the twelve (?) languages Usagi has been translated into have reprinted the Fantagraphics stories (the Czech volumes have only re-printed the first few Dark Horse books).

I'd be very interested in hearing other Dojo member's opinions and ideas on this and other possibilities, as well as Stan's, of course.

Abayo.....

@Steve

That's a nice and intriguing idea, to work together on a project of this size... :)
I, for one, would be willing to put some work in it...
Just my thoughts here:
What I had in mind when I first read your post was this: a picture of a character like that on the back of the issues plus a sketch (maybe in a similar pose) of that same character next to it;

Your idea of information about foreign publications of UY is very good, maybe with a listing of currently available comics and start of publishing; this could be on the back, with a (small?) picture of the first book (Because some publishers used the same picture for the first book, we should change that....)

Maybe we should mark certain special days (like Kite festival, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Allerheiligen and similar; it's up to us, I think, to contribute...) in that calendar.... 8)

This could be fun....

About the calendar, i agree with Thomas, that's a good idea Steve, and we should try to customize it, and calendar is a quite easy thing to do.

Steve,
I would fully endorse such an idea assuming Stan approves.

Unfortunately, I cannot approve such a calendar. For one thing, it's a lot of work and you will have to sell a lot to break even.

Also, it may deter any potential calendar licensee to have another calendar out there.
