Congratulations!

It's been fun to participate;

It might be a good idea to make all those little essays accessable (or at least some of them), I, too, am curious about how others have found Usagi and what their points of view are...

If only I'd be any good with HTML....

I wonder if these people ever visit the dojo? Are they excited to have won?

I guess they must be part of the dojo since they entered the contest. I was just curious to know what their reaction was when they found out that they had won.

1. How I discovered Usagi Yojimbo?

I've been a fan for over 22 years. I first discovered the comic @ Golden Age Collectables in the lower level of the Pike Place Market in the mid-1980's. I was beginning to collect Albedo & have one of the first ones with UY. I've collected UY in the Critters series; Fantagraphics; Mirage; & now Dark Horse series. I finally had the Honor of meeting Stan in Seattle @ the Emerald City Comicon, where he produced the poster & tee-shirt for that event.

2. Why I like reading Usagi Yojimbo

I've had an affinity with Japanese culture all of my life. Even though I'm of Filipino & Native American decent, I grew up in a neighborhood where all of our neighbors were Japanese-American. We ate Candied Ginger; read comic books & then acted them out in the summer while wearing our Zori's; grew up going to Bon Odori; learned how to swear in Japanese; you know, the typical American style of growing up. (heh)

I also was a huge fan of Akira Kurosawa & "The Seven Samurai", and Japanese culture & history. I think I was into Manga & Anime long before it became mainstream here.

As an artist & cartoonist, I have strived to emulate Stan Sakai's
effortless-style.

With all of these reasons above, Stan's amazing artwork, & just plain great storytelling, has mesmerized me to UY since it's inception. I crave each new edition.

3. Who my favorite supporting UY character is and why?

Murakami Gennosuke, or "Gen". His friendship to Usagi is complex & full of humor. Though he is perceived as selfish, he is really good & honorable at heart. But he keeps Usagi guessing all the time.

4. Why I deserve to win this raffle?

I've been a Usagi Yojimbo & Stan Sakai fan for over 22 years, since the early days. I have Usagi Yojimbo pictures in my office @ work, around my house, & in my studio. I've even named my computer USAGI II, complete with an UY icon for my symbol. (Usagi I was my first computer, but that hard drive failed.) I have 2 originals of Usagi, a Emerald City Comicon tee-shirt & poster, a beautiful Cold-Cast statue of Young Usagi & Katsuichi, rare finger-puppet cards, &
other collectables, many personally signed by Stan. I evangelize UY to family, friends & others, most who think I'm crazy. Other comic book fans just think UY is just a minor character from the TMNT series.

I believe myself to be one of the true original fans of Usagi Yojimbo & stan Sakai. That is why I deserve to win this raffle.

1. I first discovered Usagi when I started collecting TMNT back in 1989. I can't remember the issue but it was the time when Leonardo was fighting a group of foot soldiers and is suddenly transported to ancient Japan and meets Usagi for the first time. I loved that issue, especially when Leonardo gets transported back to modern time and other turtles mock him about fighting a bunny.

2. As well as the entertainment factor about reading Usagi, I also enjoy the history and cultural learning's that I get. Apart from what I have seen on the big screen, no one really takes the time to teach people about Japan, like the way you do and I go away from reading a comic book knowing I have learned a little more than I knew before - thank you

3. They say that the dog is man's best friend, and in this case the dog came in the form of Spot. I thought that Spot showed the same traits, from the beginning to end, of a loyal canine and repaid back the favour to Usagi (I think he saved him in a restaurant) when he was killed defending Usagi and his girlfriend/wife.
In a way the two of them reminded me of the Hulk. They would travel the land looking for a place to settle down, and then something always happened that made them gather their things and carry on looking. I always pictured Usagi and Spot (in their latter years) bathing in a hot pool reminiscing about their many adventures, but alas that wasn't to be!

4. I think there are those out there that deserve to win the statue more than myself, either they have read Usagi from the very beginning or are still reading the comic today. Therefore if I do win, would I be able to get a t-shirt instead and/or some promo cards, and then auction off the statue with the proceeds going to a charity of your choice.

1. How I discovered Usagi Yojimbo
Think i found him in back of a critters comic. Ever since then tried to find many of his comics as i could

2. Why I like reading Usagi Yojimbo
I love history and think it's very neat to learn of japense history in this way, and he's a great main character to follow. the other stories that he has are very nice and intriguing.

3. Who my favorite supporting UY character is and why
tomoe ami. she's such a intersting and complex character. you can obviously tell she really cares deeply for usagi and he for her, that you're always wondering if they'll have get to more than that as they're constantly bumping into each other and helping out.

4. Why I deserve to win this raffle
I would like to finally win something in my life and am such a huge fan of usagi. If i could afford some of the prizes being afford i'd get one for myself, but alas can't.

Here is the video of Stan selecting the winners of the UYD's UY NR 100 Statue Contest. As you can see it was completely random!
