Kon nichi wa,
I am hoping you might be able to provide a little bit of information concerning several projects Sergio is supposedly working on...
1. Catnippon and Usagi story which was discussed several years ago...
Has there been any progress on this collaboration and if so, when might we see it appear?
2. T. C. Mars story which Mark (or maybe Sergio?) had mentioned a while back as finally being taken off the back-burner and completed. Are you doing the lettering on this project? Do you have any idea what the possable release date might be?
3. Groo 12 issue mini-series which has been mentioned several times over the last few months... Same questions as #2 - will you be doing the lettering and any idea on when it might be released?
On a differant note, I recently read an interview with Dan Barrington (spelling?) of "The Nocturnals" on a web-site somewhere. Anyways, in it, he mentions that he would love to do a Usagi story (i.e. write and draw?)...
I remember you once mentioning a possible series of stories illustrated by other artists... Have you and Dan ever discussed this possability together?
Are there any other established artists who have mentioned an interest in doing Usagi stories that you are aware of?
Thanks for your time...
Abayo...

1.--We haven't discussed this for such a long time. We wrote up a 6 issue synopsis, but haven't done anything with it. We just don't have the time.
2.--Part of the TC Mars story was published many, many years ago in Joe Kubert's Sojourn. Story and art by Sergio, with scripts by the late Don Rico. A few more pages were done with Mark scripting, and me doing the lettering. I believe Dark Horse has greenlighted the project, but with the current state of the comics industry I think Sergio has decided to wait on this project. We just don't know how a humorous detective story with a female lead would sell right now.
3.--I will be doing the lettering. We're just waiting for Sergio and Mark to get started on it.
Besides Dan and Sergio, I would love to see Usagi drawn by Jeff Smith, Frank Miller (he already drew a neat cover that was used for one of the DH anthologies), Darko Macan, Bill Stout, and there are so many others.

One of the first issues of UY I ever bought was the Fantagraphics #11 which had the Catnippon story for back-up. At the time, my comic collection consisted solely of Sergio Aragones' Groo the Wanderer and I was just starting to look into his other work. (Needless to say, I quickly started reading and collecting UY also.) Not long after that I bought a 3 page Catnippon story printed on 20# bond paper which was supposedly distributed at a convention sometime previously. Counting the 2 pin-ups, I have a total of 13 pages of Catnippon, and I've been hoping for more for what seems a long, long time...
According to Mark Evanier's "Definitive History of Groo" which he published in Comic Buyer's Guide several years back, T. C. Mars was the first time he and Sergio worked together. Mark claims responsability for the lettering job for the two parts published in Joe Kurbert's Sojourn. T. C. Mars is another Sergio character I've been waiting years and years to see again.
(Groo may be MIA, But I still have Usagi!!!)
