QUESTION FOR ALL USAGI FANS!

Post by SicSkillz3 »

hi, i started reading usagi yojimbo when i was 5 and kind of took a little break for awhile. now that i am older ( and have a little bit of a bank account) i would like to complete my set of graphic novels. its been so long since i have been to a comic shop, and i am looking for a list of every novel that is out, currently, right now. i am not looking for individual comic issues as that would be to strenious to collect, but i would like to get every novel that has come out so far.any feedback would be much appreciated. ALSO, when i saw a couple books online, the cover for book #1 is much different then the cover i have for #1. mine says fantagraphics, and the new is dark horse, but are the books still the same on the inside? thanks!!!

Right now there are 17 graphic novels, and the 18th novel is on the works. These are:

FANTAGRAPHICS

1-Ronin
2-Samurai
3-The way of the wanderer
4-The Dragon Bellow Conspiracy
5-Lone Goat and Kid
6-Circles
7-Gen's story

DARK HORSE

8-Shades of Death
9-Daisho
10-Brink of Life and Death
11-Seasons
12-Grasscutter
13-Grey Shadows
14-Demon Mask
15-Grasscutter 2 - Journey to Atsuta Shrine
16-The Shrouded Moon
17-Duel at Kitanoji
18 (avaiable in June)-Travels with Jotaro

Both Fantagraphics and Dark Horse have online shops. You can also look at other online shops like Heritage Source, Rabbit Valley or Amazon. Or better yet, try to look for the books at your local library.

About different covers: Fantagraphics publishes and sells the first 7 graphic novels and Dark Horse does the same with the others, so you probably saw different books. However, my (Fantagraphics) Book 3 has a cover with Usagi standing up looking at the front with his sword on his back and Spot next to his feet, while the Spanish edition Book 3 I had has a cover featuring Usagi with his word unshiethed (sp?) confronting Jei with his black yari. I think I got an older edition of the Fantagraphics book, because on the Fantagraphics website the 3rd book has the Spanish cover.

I was dissatisfied with the original cover for UY Bk 3. When the German edition was licensed, I asked to replace the cover with a new piece of art. When Fantagraphics went back to press with the English language edition, it was also replaced. The same thing happened with Book 4: Dragon Bellow. The trade and the hardcover featured different cover art. I preferred the image on the hardcover, so when the trade went back to press, I replaced the art. I'm thinking of doing it with Book 2: Ronin. That is the only book that has line art, and not a painted cover. I believe they replaced it with another piece of art for the Spanish or some other foreign editions.

The Spanish edition Book 2 cover has Usagi riding a dragon. In the old Dojo someone made a wallpaper with that painting.

Awesome, whenever i go to the library i come back nearly crashing my bike with anticipation of the next book im about to read, The books are so good! I used to have the very first book, (The Ronin) sad but true, with 4 older brothers i never got to read the full thing, and i only remember usagi killing a goblin and getting into a fight with tomoe and noriuki, and- Gaah, anyhow, the books are great, and i cant wait till Travels with Jotaro comes out, im practically drooling with anticipation! (better not get carried away) anyhow, i do hope to get the full collection sometime as well.
