WonderCon is terrific, and very much comic-centric. It reminds me of the old San Diego Con, but with a much bigger budget. I have been to 33 SD Cons, so I remember the old days.
Also, San Francisco is a wonderful travel destination. China Town is walking distance to the con site, and SF has a pretty good public transit system.

Went to my first Wondercon this year, and it did feel like the old SDCC's of the late 80's/early 90's in both size and atmosphere. Found time for two excursions to Japan-Town as well (still kicking myself for missing out on fresh taiyaki while I was there). Even got to share the shuttle van back to the airport with Joe Kubert! Also saw the Usagi statues on display too.
Wouldn't mind going for my 10th and final SDCC in 2012, but that might be competing budget-wise with a possible "Godzilla Tour" (G-Tour) of Japan next year...
