As far as I know, the historical event was , well, let's say, terminal.... would be hard to make it ongoing beyond their final mission....

I don't know if there will be a hardcover, but it is doubtful. However, the writer, Mike Richardson, is also the publisher, so who knows?

Fingers crossed. Thanks Stan.

47 RONIN #1 (of 5)

Mike Richardson (W) and Stan Sakai (A/Cover)

On sale Nov 7
FC, 32 pages
$3.99
Miniseries

Among the best-known tales in Japanese history, the legend of the 47 Ronin and their epic mission to avenge their disgraced master epitomizes the samurai code of honor. It has been said, “To know the story of the 47 Ronin is to know Japan.” Retold through the ages, the legend at last comes to comics in a meticulously researched and beautifully illustrated miniseries from Mike Richardson, Stan Sakai, and editorial consultant Kazuo Koike! Recounting this sweeping tale of honor and violence in all its grandeur, chapter one details the tragic incident that would seal the fate of Lord Asano and set forty-seven of his vassals on a years-long path of vengeance!

• A gorgeous new adaptation of Japan’s enduring “national legend”!

• From writer Mike Richardson (The Secret) and artist Stan Sakai (Usagi Yojimbo)!

• Created in consultation with manga giant Kazuo Koike (Lone Wolf and Cub)!

“Sakai’s artwork is still as stellar and simple as you know it to be. His characters own their space on the page and his composition is so effortlessly meaningful.” —ComicBookResources.com

I am keen to see this release as it is one of my favourite stories from Japan plus it gives me the opportunity to collect the mini-series in issues instead of TPB as I do with Usagi Yojimbo.

If there is any news on the UK release of the issues, please let me know.

OH! There are no words for how amazing this looks. And these are just quick previews.
Worry not! I've already got this on my pull list.

Forgive me if this has been asked, but will there be any back matter in single issues? Like some historical info, sort of like Lone Wolf & Cub?
Things need not have happened to be true. Stories and dreams are what will endure when mere facts are dust and forgotten.

I would like to add some story notes, but I doubt I'll have the time. Mike had been doing a lot of research, so maybe he will do story notes.

I recently got some colored pages from Lovern, and they are wonderful. He took inspiration from old woodblock prints.

Stan Sakai wrote:I finally finished with the art on the first issue. I just learned that the writer is adding two pages to it. He's also the publisher, so what he says goes.
I'm really sorry Stan, but that made me laugh...sounds just like my boss...

Very much looking forward to this...I've got it on pre-order from a UK distributor...and I'm guessing the 'Usagi break' will undoubtedly involve various plots, plans and things hatching in the subconcious while you're working on the current project.

i just read that this will only be a 5 issue special. if that's the case, i'll bypass waiting for the tpb and just pick up the issues as they come.

Very, very excited!

Ronin was just word of the day on http://japanese.about.com/library/blhiraculture43.htm . Coincidence? Never!

Weird seeing Mr. Sakai doing humans...
