Dear Roel,
Gen slurping noodles made me laugh and he still has his complete horn. Awesome! Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to buying this (and thanks for passing on the money to Sharon and Stan).
Peace, maka

I'm glad you guys are liking it even though the quality is low res and I'm not even showing anything cool. If you guys are enjoying it I may release a rough cut of the trailer before Christmas Eve. I think you'll get more of a feel of the movie after seeing the trailer.

Lookin' awesome!
Another addition to the list of cool Usagi 30th Anniversary items to look forward to.
Even better knowing that profits will go to help Stan and Sharon with their never-ending medical expenses.

Re: Usagi short film

Looks fantastic!
Can you give us a hint as to how long of an animation it will be when it is finished?

Re: Usagi short film

Re: Usagi short film
Hi Steve,
The short is about 5-6 minutes long but we have an announcement that we will release soon. For a stop motion film, five minutes is pretty long especially without a budget.
This short was about four months of work. Our budget was super low and for the most part had to reply on the creatives generosity in giving us their time. To work on a limited budget we used what we could of the Rokutoys maquettes but we still made new bodies, sewed clothes, props and created mouths for them to speak. Yes, they all have speaking parts. I wasn't able to get the voices I wanted but I just showed the movie to Stan and he really liked the voice of Usagi and he enjoyed the movie. For Stop motion animation, ten seconds of footage a day is a GREAT day. I've mostly worked on live action and CG animation so this was my first time working on stop motion. My friends that helped have worked on big stop mo films but the first time I saw Gen speaking I was geeking out. I wanted to have the quality like "Nightmare before Christmas" but it turned out more like Rankin Bass which is okay because I love Rankin Bass movies.
I came up with the story based off Stan's previous work, did storyboards, production designed and art directed, edited the first rough cuts and produced and directed the movie.I've been speaking with Stan to make this since 2008 but I got too busy with work. A great group of people saw my vision and wanted to help me make this into reality and we were able to finally do it this past summer. My crew helped make the puppets, sew clothes, build sets, light sets and animate the puppets. It was a great time and I can't wait to do more.
I would love to show you guys the movie but it is not finished yet. What I've been presenting to you is a super low res rough cut of the film. The final version will be a lot better. I'm still going into post production where we will add VFX, Sound, music and the final edit. The final DVD will not only have the movie but many other extras. Stay tuned for what we will include but I am adding extras that as a fan myself would want.

Re: Usagi short film
This might be kind of difficult to manage, but I think it would be cool if this short film had an alternate Japanese-language track. When I read UY, I sometimes imagine it being in Japanese and the English word bubbles being like subtitles.

(These silly emoticons will have to do)
Thanks for the details and such, it is nice to see a bit of the creative vision behind such a fantastic project.
Considering my predominant movie interests over the past decade, a version in Japanese with English sub-titles would have set up an extra layer of cool to an already awesomely cool project.Jet_Jaguar wrote:This might be kind of difficult to manage, but I think it would be cool if this short film had an alternate Japanese-language track. Unfortunately, I imagine that getting the vocals to match the motion of the mouth movements would never have worked without redoing every bit of animated conversation over.....

Re: Usagi short film
We actually do have a japanese version and if we can make it work it will be in the DVD as well as an extended version.
