Usagi toy--at last!
On the official tmnt site, they have a completed sculpt of the Usagi figure under "production pics." He looks pretty good, too. He's so white he's ivory, though, and I'm not sure if this is a "prototype" coloring job or whether this is the finished product. Looks cool, though.

The new Usagi figure looks a lot like he does on the TMNT TV show. I think they did a good job capturing that character design (which really doesn't look a lot like Stan's version of Usagi to begin with), but nothing beats the Dark Horse Usagi action figures! At least this one is a lot better than the original Playmates toy (Usagi's head on He-Man's body).

I've always had a little trouble with 3d versions of stuff taken from comics/cartoons. The only really successful one I've seen is the Supermobile from Corgi (original ad here). Most of the them end up being unconvincing, because in their original format, the artist wasn't working with a 3d model, but was rather making assumptions of how something would look from any given angle-- even in cartoons! Remember how wonky Bart and Homer looked in that Hallowe'en episode when they travelled to the eerie third dimension?

Have you seen the new TMNT statues based on the original comic by Eastman and Laird? Those have to be about the best 3D versions of comic book characters that I have ever seen. What I notice quite a bit is that sculptors of 3D figures will try to go beyond the 2D versions by adding extras that really shouldn't be there. The guys who did these TMNT statues did the opposite -- they actually tried to take the original art and turn it into 3D. I've got the Leo statue and it is outstanding. It's almost as if Eastman and Laird themselves sculpted it based exactly on their art. Imagine having a figure of Usagi that is based exactly on Stan's art...now that would be cool!!

Here's a pretty cool close-up--I like it more now that I've seen it from more than just the front.:
