Usagi Yojimbo/TMNT Complete Collection

Post by Gaffey »

Usagi Yojimbo/TMNT Complete Collection by Dark Horse.

Has this already been discussed either here or on Facebook? Will it be a black hardcover like the Saga books?

This is the first I've heard of it. I wonder what it'll include, seeing as how Namazu was an IDW publication (and we've already received numerous versions of that book), with the Mirage-era stories Turtle Soup/Rabbit Stew appearing in the Fantagraphics published Book 3: The Wanderer and the TMNT/Usagi Namazu hardcover, and The Treaty included in the Namazu expanded hardcover.

Dark Horse already publishes the Shades of Green storyline in Saga vol. 1 and Book 8: Shades of Death, while Hare Today, Hare Tomorrow appears in the Legends book.

Are there any other Usagi/TMNT stories besides these?

Found a site with more details, including the cover art: https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/book ... 506709505/

Looks like it'll be a 132 page paperback, with dimensions similar to the Saga books (so a little larger than the trade paperbacks) and will collect all the Usagi/TMNT crossover stories Stan has done. No mention of a hardcover.

Gaffey, where did you hear about the book? Aside from the Penguin Random House site I linked above, I can't find anything else about it, even from Dark Horse's own site.

I saw it in the back of the TMNT/UY Sakai variant hardcover. I didn't need another copy, but I wanted the signature card.

That paperback has a similar look to the Saga trades so maybe they'll make a limited hardcover run. At first glance I thought I saw a rat creature in the background.

From the page count, it sounds like they are adding "Shades of Green" to the rest of the Namazu material. Hopefully, they will publish a re-colored version of "Shades of Green" to go in this....

I saw the ads but, being ads, my brain just sort of skipped over the actual content.

Since it says it's including all the crossover content, I assume it'll have:
  • Turtle Soup/Rabbit Stew (6 pages)
  • The Treaty (10 pages)
  • Hare Today, Hare Tomorrow (will not be included)
  • Shades of Green (60 pages)
  • Namazu (42 pages)
  • edit to add: The Crossing (8 pages)
That comes out to 126 pages, which accounts for basically the entire page count. The remaining pages are probably an intro and maybe some story notes at the end.

When DH negotiated the TMNT/UY: Namazu crossover, they also included the right to publish a complete crossover book. I think the rights had a deadline, though, and that is why it is coming out so soon on the heels of the Namazu expanded edition.

Namazu will be printed in color but the other stories will be b/w. There may be some color pin-ups, but I'm not sure. The only story that readers may not be familiar with is The Crossing by Peter Laird, which, to my knowledge, has not been reprinted since it was published in Fantagraphics' UY #10.

Hare Today, Hare Tomorrow will not be in this collection because, though it was published by Mirage, it is a Usagi Yojimbo/Space Usagi story.

The Compleat (yes, I wanted it spelled this way) TMNT/Usagi Crossover book is scheduled for the fall.

Will the book also include the handful of Usagi / Turtles pin-ups which you have done over the years?

Yes, including some art that has never been printed and that has not yet been printed, such as a new Mondo print made for an upcoming TMNT gallery showing though this will be in b/w as opposed to the color print.

I asked and was told by Editor Philip that there will NOT be a hardcover edition of this book.

Thanks for the update. I guess it'll be the softcover for me then.

Will this contain anything not collected in the Saga editions? :)

The Crossing, it was original in Fantagraphics issue #10. Saga collections are Mirage/Dark Horse only.
