General discussion about Usagi Yojimbo, the comics, the stories, the characters, collectibles, TV appearances, Stan Sakai, Space Usagi, Nilson & Hermy, and all other related topics.
At the 2006 S.D.C.C. I gave Stan my expectation for Dark Horse's Issue 100 of Usagi Yojimbo: 100 pages, in color, and something profound happens to Usagi...
I just finish reading #100 and, while it comes up short on the first two items, being BBQ alive could change one's perspective on life.
I especially enjoyed Sergio's tale on their food debauchery jaunts and I have to ask you Stan -- where do you put it all?

Does it exist for true ? i mean, this kind of ceremony ?
Indeed it does. The celebrity roast is an event where a bunch of people (usually stand-up comedians) get together to insult the "guest of honor" and tell the dirtiest jokes they know. Though, from the preview pages I've read, this one was relatively clean.*
*I say "relatively" because I haven't read Frank Miller's contributions yet.
It was a lot of fun. Congratulations Mr. Sakai on this milestone issue. It must be such an honor to have other professionals in your field recognize your work and you. You spent the last 23 years on this wonderful creation that they and we all enjoy so much. Fantastic.
And thank everyone here for being a part of this UY fandom. I said this before, but of all the on-line message boards I've been on, this is the most civil and respectful one. People have gone out of their way to help another fan get the UY collectable they are missing, give tips on visiting new locations, share their art, humor, passions and offer personal advice at times. This is a special place, folks.
Lastly, I think it's REALLY cool that many of you ended up in issue #100*. To me its another example of the unique and rich relationship Mr. Sakai and we, the fans, have. It was like Mr. Sakai was showing that we fans are part of the UY world. Congratulations to all.
Peace,
maka
(I didn't get the promotion poster. My local comic book store said it was "messed up" so they are sending back to Dark Horse for a replacement. No big deal, I can wait.)
Dear Readers,
Thank you Sensei Sakai for my highest honor of being included in your art.
It was with the greatest pride i showed my local friendly comic book store owners my picture in #100. Along with a fellow comic book fan, we all discussed how cool the issue is, especially with Sensei Sakai including so many of the Dojo members. The store got twinkly with the good vibes. I hope our Shogun is proud. Without the superior leadership of our mighty Shogun the Dojo would not be so much fun .It is cool how our Shogun gets to see the issues early.
Thank you all for the fun!
Best wishes to all!

ps. My comicbook store recieved the 15 copies but not the poster. The owner says promos are frequently late in arriving.
I know I haven't posted on the Dojo for a while. Work has taken up most of my time as of late, but I enjoyed this issue SO MUCH that I just had to post. Honestly, I wasn't sure I was going to like this issue when I heard what it was going to be, but I was highly impressed with the end result. I was laughing constantly. And wow, Guy Davis' take on Usagi and his world was breathtaking. I didn't think another artist could ever do it justice. Color me impressed!
What a great tribute to Stan*!
*No, I'm not corny enough to repeat the asterik joke here

Speaking of surprises, Stan included a slew of cameos in this issue, including a few Dojo Members! Here is what Stan sent me...see if you can recognize yourselves....

I'm sorry, it should have been "Robert K" (as in Kassebaum), not "Robert W".
I can fix that! (I actually thought it might be Zorak-san (Rob K.), but wasn't certain...you did mention some of the unfamiliar names were lunch buddies and whatnot

Did anyone get the Usagi Yojimbo #100 print? My local comic shop ordered 15 copies. 3 for customers and 12 for me but no print came in.
It was funny. I was standing talking to some other comic fans yesterday at the comic shop when the owner asked me if I wanted all 12 of my copies. I told him yes, because I didnt want him to pay for something he didnt really want. Turns out, people were asking for copies and he didnt have anymore. So I gave back 6 copies for him to sell.
Normally he only sells 3 copies of Usagi. Issue 100 sold 10 copies already!
But I havent gotten the print
So, my question is, did *anyone* actually get, or even see, the promotional poster / print of cover #100?
I'm seeing posts like this on the board:
I didn't get the promotion poster. My local comic book store said it was "messed up"
but nobody crowing about actually getting the promotional item. I know I ordered 15 copies from my local store to get the benefit, and they did not receive a poster. When the shop owner called his contact at Diamond Distributors, they said they knew nothing about the promotion . . .
Getting anxious, wondering how Dark Horse is handling this.

I sent an e-mail to Jonathan at Dark Horse, who was coordinating the promo. This is his reply:
"Stan,
Funny that I should receive your email today. I was surprised to
learn just yesterday that the prints had been missing in Memphis for
the past few weeks and are only now being shipped. I assumed (since I
had heard nothing otherwise) that everything had gone as planned, but
it seems that was not the case.
So - it looks like Retailers who met the order minimum should be
receiving their prints in the shipment for next Wednesday."
Frank Miller's contribution was by far the funniest, exactly because it was so darn abrupt. Some weird guy (Frank?) comes crashing through a skylight shouting "Gaaarrr!!" and kicks Usagi off the grill. One page, two panels. And then it's over! I almost fainted from hysterics.
