Awww sensei and his wife are a cute couple!Steve Hubbell wrote:Dave Allen Duncan is one of the students also partaking of the trip to Japan for the Savannah College of Art and Design. The other artist is Bernard Chang. Every year SCAD takes a small group of students to Tokyo (they also have an annual European trip). Each day we would do a few hours of class time, then there will be an outing in the afternoon--to the Miyazaki Museum, Akihabara, Kamakura, Asakusa, etc. I used a connection I have at TMS, an animation studio, to arrange tours to their studio and to Studio Ghibli which I am really excited about.

We just got back to the hotel after walking around the Imperial Palace. The gardens were closed today to foreign visitors, so went to a Buddhist temple and graveyard. We are going to have dinner at a ninja restaurant tonight, then wake up very early for Tsukiji Fish Market, then Ghibli Museum. We were going to Nikko after Tsukiji, but rain is forecast with a high of 5 degrees celsius. Wet and cold, no thanks.

It was very hard to find. We even took the wrong Metro line, so got there a little late. We had to go along dark narrow corridors, across a draw bridge, crouch under overhangs, through a maze to get to our private room. The food was excellent, and the presentations beautiful. A ninja came in later and did close-up magic for us.Ben wrote:A ninja restaurant?
Wouldn't that be hard to find?
We woke at 4 this morning to walk to Tsukiji Fish Market. It was an experience. Very neat, but dangerous dodging all those scooter/carts.

The weather was a bit uncertain yesterday, so we skipped Nikko in favor of the Ghibli Museum.
We all met at 4:45 AM, and walked the mile to Tsukiji Fish Market. It was busy and we all had to dodge those quick little one-man carts zipping all over the place. We saw the huge main hall where all the vendors were set up, then went in to see the auction of the high-priced fish. Later, Sharon and I found a restaurant where we had some sushi. It is not cheap, but it is fresh and delicious. We walked over to the nearby Inari Shrine. It is my favorite shrine on this trip so far.
We trained over to the Ghibli Museum when it was just starting to rain. It is a magical place. My favorite was the zoetrope room.

I believe I was wrong when I wrote that Dave Allen Duncan is one of the students, After reading more of his blog, I realize he must be one of the faculty from Savannah College of Art and Design.
Anyways, he has continued to post photos on his blog from Japan, several of which feature Stan Sakai in his role as sensei......
