Little known facts about comic book super heroes

Here are some rather intresting facts I've found about our various comic book heroes.....

-Before Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns, Batman was always 29 or younger, and not a day over.

-Kryptonite is not Superman's only weakness. Superman gets his powers from the yellow rays of the sun. If the yellow rays from the sun were filtered out (which has happened on occasion) he would be powerless.

-Elektra from Daredevil is a VILLANESS. Quote Frank Miller- "Elektra is a bad guy. People try to make her out ot be good, but she's really really bad. She just feels bad about beinng bad"

-Superman has had more spinoff characters than any other. His various incarnations include (but are not limited to) Superboy, Supergirl, Superwoman, Mephisto, and (argh) the Man of Steel, and let's not forget Krypto :)

-Aquaman is dumb (and that's a fact).

-Batman was originally a hero for a series of short stories that appeared in a mystery pulp magazine.

That's just a few. I have more on the way :)

That is somewhat true. I think anyone really likes Aquaman, though his empire has fallen and rose a few times. Electra is indeed a villain, though most prefer to think other wise. The Dark Knight Returns was kind of a comic, Batman was pushing around 60 by then. Check out the family of that Bat. There has been quite a few people, including 4 different Robins.

Bizarro Superman is my favorite.

Have you noticed with the one-off hero comics, although names, powers and costumes are different - its nearly the same plot EVERY TIME!

ok, plot is ALWAYS different but elements are usually the same.
gift or accident creates power, power comes responsibility, villian is the opposite of the hero, the villan must always distroy something.....
Why i prefer manga.

I've been watching Unbreakable too many time havent i? lol

Yeah, I don't like superhero comics myself, either.

But there is some good stuff out there.

Personally, I recommend

- Fables
- Rex Mundi
- Y - The Last Man
- Conan
- Age of Bronze
- The Walking Dead (Yes, it's a zombie story, but it's actually not that bad.)
- Planetary (Kind of super-heroish, but more interesting than the typical boy scout on steroids beating up the diabolical villain thing.)

And of course, Usagi, but that goes without saying here.

There's more good comics out there, but I didn't want to make this post *too* long.

I can second Age of Bronze. Usually, I just wait for the collections to come out. My pal virtually only buys collected books now, and I am starting to go that route, too.

Yeah, I only buy collections now, as well.

Fortunately, I'm good friends with my local comic shop owner and one of his employees, so I can read all I want, and I just buy the collections for stuff I like.

Superman is also weak against magic and various forms of mental attacks.

Mephisto is a demon persona from the Marvel Universe and I've never heard of 'Superwoman' before. By 'Man of Steel', I guess that you are referrring to John Irons aka Steel?

Batman would be in close contention for this catergory, but at least Superman never had a Bat-Mite.

Well, I wouldn't say he is dumb. DC does seem dedicated to keeping the character alive and fresh (as seen in his numerous series' launches) and some runs of the character are interesting.

Superwoman appeared in ONE comic. (DC Comics Presents, I think) She was a descendant of Jimmy Olsen from about two hundred years in the future. She was a reporter and historian who returned to the past to do research on the mysterious Superwoman only to discover that she was Superwoman. All her powers were derived from future technology.

And let us not forget he used to use a gun and wear purple gloves!
