Totoro is still my favorite of all the Miyazaki films. When we were in Tokyo, we went to a 5 story tall toy store. They had one floor devoted to Totoro. That is another reason we had to buy another suitcase before we came home to the US.

Is the toy store devoted to Totoro easy to find ? I think I will go there !

It was in the Ginza district. However, this was about 6 years ago so their inventory has probably changed by now. But then, it could be devoted to more Miyazaki toys.

They had a whole section devoted to Totoro music boxes. My daughter Hannah was really in to music boxes at the time, so we picked one up for her. It plays the Totoro theme.

AAAAAAAAARGH!!! I WANT A CATBUS BADLY!!!!! Natural sized, if possible ;) .

And the Ashitaka's pet doll (what kind of animal is it supposed to be anyway?) also looks sweet :D . But pretty much anything coming from a Miyazaki movie is too cool. Even a stuffed Ohm from Nausicäa would rock my world ^_^ .

But the few imported stuffed dolls around here are very overpriced. Maybe I'll ask for one as a birthday present or something.

EDIT: I found out today that Howl's Moving Castle will soon arrive here! Has anyone see it? How good is it?

Going to see Howl's Moving Castle tomorrow evening--will let you know how I liked it. Unfortunately, I think it is the dubbed version though.

Spirited Away is my favorite of the Miyazaki films (though I haven't gotten around to seeing all of them yet). In fact, depending on my mood, it is my favorite animated feature of all time; flip flopping between that and Incredibles.

Ashitaka rode a red elk, named Yakule (my spelling propably way off).

I'd buy a stuffed Ohm too...for my niece of course...yea my niece.

Agree with you, Catbus is cool!
I found one time a Totoro natural size (2meter), but the cost : 2000$!
too prohibitive for me... since 3 years i didn't buy any doll in France, too expansive and we only find now pale HK imitation... I never saw Ohm stuff from Nausicaa, it should be great but i would prefer Teto! Nausicaa is a great manga ! more interesting than the movie.

Howl's Moving Castle astonished me! i was so disapointed by Spirited Away, a great music by Joe Hisashi, very aesthetic but i found the movie empty compared to other Ghibli productions. But it must be me, because everyone adore Spirited Away. anyway, am a lucky man :i got the Ghibli Box to watch their movies!
Howl's Moving Castle is an adaptation (book is great), has not the best soundtrack of Joe Hisaishi but it got the magic ! Poetry, a profound thought about war, no manicheism, true love, and : wow ! i think you will have a great time.

Yessss.... Totoro gooooood....

Yay for Catbus! Merrrow!

I saw a Catbus plushie in Epcot, Japan section of the Many Lands area. The plushie was a whopping $60 and it was barely a foot long.

I settled for a large card set instead.

And I can't WAIT to go to Howl's Moving Castle! It hasn't come out yet where I live, but I'm looking forward to it. I watch every Miyazaki movie I can get my hands on! Which, unfortunately, isn't too many... :(

Saw Howl's Moving Castle Thursday night, dubbed version. I enjoyed it, but Spirited Away remains my favorite Miyazaki film. Visually, there was much in Howl's Moving Castle that echoed things seen in Spirited Away. I do love how well he is able to blend the fantastic backgrounds with the animation itself.

I believe the toy store is still there, at least as of 3 years ago (or so). My wife was on a courier trip to Japan, and your description sounds a lot like the store she described where she scored our Totoro toys, along with other strange Japanese stuffed animals (there's a seal disguised as a shark, for instance).

Totoro toys are still selling strongly in Japan and shouldn't be too hard to find, from what I understand.

Dave:
Mark Andrews, story supervisor for The Incredibles, will be at E-Ville Press at SDCC. He's got a new version of his Oni graphic novel ready. I saw Mark at the Cartoon Art Museum and a Ghibli panel at the Pacific Film Archive. He's a terrefic and enthusiastic speaker.
Best,

Thanks for the heads up Steven. When I first went to see The Incredibles at the local theater, I expected to enjoy it but not to the drop-jaw extent that I did. It was a pure joy to behold. I saw it again a week later, and I wish I made it to a third show.

Spirited Away for me is the stuff of Mystery, Magic, and Dreams.

The Incredibles equals pure Joy and Amazement.

I always gush when talking about these movies.
