UY: The Game

Hi, I'm new here... :)
I am a big otaku of Usagi. I have every tome (book) that appeared in my country (Poland), which are: 1-5 and 8-17.

I haven't got much time lately, but I got to know one thing for sure: is anybody thinking about making a PERFECT, great game for PC with Usagi as main hero? Sword fighting, RPG elements, action, mind work... 8)
Somebody got to make something like that!! It would sell in millions of CDs (or DvDs)!

I am starting to drool with my tongue out :P when i am thinking about it.

The main problem is: What when a company that release it just RUIN a whole idea?! :x  Oh... there are so many games about films and comics or books, that are awful because of low budget and low time of production.

Please write about it... It is one of the greatest ideas for a game ever :!:

Usagi Yojimbo as a Final Fantasy game?

Interesting thought.

Since he said RPG elements, I'm guessing he meant a style similar to that of the Legend of Zelda series, except that Usagi would level up and gain new attacks at certain levels and stuff like that, but not a full-out RPG.

I'd love to see a new, well done Usagi game, but I personally feel it would work best as a platformer. Think Tenchu, but with a focus on action rather than stealth.

So there is a game with Usagi? Where can i get it?! :P

But seriously, I think that platformer would be a big waste! :(

And not zelda also... I think mainly of something with TPP (third person perspective - from the back), good graphics, action... Stealth isn't bad. In the game maybe you would play not just with Usagi, but maybe-maybe with, e.g. Neko-Ninja like Chizu, or with Gennosuke...

There is so many ideas! Please write what you are thinking about it...
Maybe Stan Sakai himself would get interested?!
That would be cool... 8)

Previous Usagi game was in the late 80s for the 8-bit computers. And very well done is was too (from Beam Software, who also did the legendary Way of the Exploding Fist).

http://www.gamebase64.com

Get yourself a C64 emulator (Vice or CCS) and grab a copy of the game from the above site.

As for a new Usagi game, an action RPG affair would be a good idea; it would also cover and give rise to all his wanderings we see in the comics, as he rarely stays in the same place for long.

Or... and quite obvious in my eyes, a 1-on-1 fighter in the vein of titles such as Samurai Spirits and Soul Calibur.

There are quite a few threads already about an hypothetic UY videogame, just search for them (they were created many months ago). I'm not trying to close this thread or anything, it's just that many of us have already said what we would like to see in an UY videogame ;) .

As said before, I'd love to se a new UY videogame, and when that comes to mi mind there are lots of options, from 1 on 1 fighting game (just like some games made for example about naruto) to a much biger game game more likely to neverwinternights style.

Oh, man...

Neverwinter Nights? 1on1 fighting game? Yuck! :x

You know about 3rd person perspective games? A really good ones?
This must be best of them, with advanced sword fighting engine! And both action and sneaking, and thinking even!

And not for children, for normal gamers. So - the blood is  almost needed!

What is more, It must be created with supervisor Stan Saki himself.
You know, it just can be a crap! It needs a lot of work...
But it got to be made and released sooner or in the longer future...
Without that Game - I'll be empty...
With it - I'll be fullfilled!!!

Blood isn't always necessary for "normal gamers". Well, some people find gore appealing, but what really makes the difference from a child's game and an adult's game is the game mechanics. Banjo Kazooie for the Nintendo 64 had a very childish look but I've never been able to beat the game (the final boss is tough! I only recall the final boss from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Sega Genesis to be as hard). Carmaggedon was an extremely gory game, and I recall having fun with it when I was 12 or 13, nowadays I wouldn't even play it because I'd find it boring. Except for multiplayer; multiplayer games are always fun ;) .

The last hack'n'slash game I remember having real fun with was Streets Of Rage 2, and you didn't even use weapons :P . I haven't played God Of War for the PS2 yet, but I've heard it's good. But in UY, I usually care more about the story rather than the action, so unless the game has a very action-centered story like Grasscutter 2, a beat'em up would be the last kind of game I'd create for UY. I'd rather have an action RPG or adventure like Zelda, with slow and calm parts like talking to people and investigating (inspector Ishida!) and quick-paced parts à la beat'em up. I'd also love to see something like those Quick Time Events in Shenmue, but with actual choice of action, instead of just success or failure.

And a 1 on 1 fighting game would also be sweet ;) . Sasuké'd be the only one able to cast ha do kens  .

Yeah, a Zelda type game would be great!! I love those!

Anyone can hack'n'bash, but solving puzzles is a real challenge. I probably wouldn't buy the game, or even try it, if it was just fight after gory fight. To me, that's not all that Usagi is about. Not only would I find the gore offensive, but out of character with the books.

You can have violence, in fact I like the fighting part of Zelda, but it doesn't need to be excessively bloody.

I mainly just want a game that you don't simply breeze through.

I agree that there should be a choice of a couple characters you can be. Or maybe, you start out as Usagi, but you collect other characters that you can switch to along the way. And there are points where you HAVE to be someone else to complete a puzzle or defeat an enemy. That would make it more complicated.

I also think it would be cool if you got to go back in time and be Usagi as a kid. Like an alternate world, all the same characters would be there, but they'd be younger.

I dunno, maybe that idea is too rediculous. :?

No matter... I'm the minority in the gaming world, I'm not a "gamer", and I haven't bought a new game in a year or so. So, pay no mind to my oppinion. If the majority of the players want a game with lots of gory action, who am I to say anything about it?

^_^/

Why? You can't say something is ridiculous until you've tried the idea out and checked by yourself that the final result is lame or doesn't work at all. Look at Katamari Damacy. I find the idea of playing as young Usagi interesting.

I wish I could afford to buy more games... I'm both busy and broke :P . But you haven't missed that much; just like movies, music or books, the majority of it is crap, but there are so many that sometimes you can find something worth playing. I'm currently looking forward to Battlefield 2 (out already, but my PC won't run it ) and Okami for the PS2, even if I don't have one. This summer I'll probably get hooked on Guild Wars, and since I'll be working, maybe I can save enough for a Gamecube or something :D . But I have other priorities first.

And most of my gamer friends (from 17 years old and up, the ones who have been playing ever since the NES) and I don't really care about gore, we care about interesting and fun gameplay. If you want gore, go rent "Cannibal Holocaust", "Salò" or any of the earlier Peter Jackson movies. Or play any of the many lame violent games available. We don't really care about gore if the game isn't worth playing.

An Usagi game has to happen one of these days. It did in the 80s. I can see a 3rd-person hybrid RPG/adventure/fighter game all rolled into one. Imagine wandering around Feudal Japan, battling brigands and ninja, meeting and helping new people, teaming up with Gen or Tomoe, visiting Sensei Katsuichi, taking part in a full-on samurai war like the Battle of Adachigahara.... Maybe when you meet up with key enemies and opponents like Jei, Inazuma, Nakahara Koji, or Gunichi, the environment switches to a 1-on-1 3-D duel, like Tekken. Actually, Usagi Yojimbo: Battle of Adachigahara sounds like to cool title for the first release (as in first of many) 8)

YES! :!: :!: :!: :D :) :o 8)

That's it! That would be totally awesome and amazing game. That is the thing. Thank you, Oh, Todd Shogun the Great! I couldn't say it better.
:P
I'm just loosing a lot of water with my tongue sticked out of my mouth, so I'm going to get some water - a lot of water. I'm going to survive this time to the release of that game!

I'd pay top dollar!! Stan if it does happen I'd recommend selecting a few testers off the UY Dojo to make sure the game is perfect.
