Ack ! As a big <I>Star Trek</I> fan, I don't know why this didn't occur to me sooner:
The <I>perfect</I> voice for an animated Usagi would be Mr. Sulu himself: George Takei !

Well, Toshiro Mifune is gone and the only voice who could keep up with John Rhys-Davies as Gen would be George Takei as Usagi !

The problem with George Takei is that he always sounds like Mr. Sulu, even when he's not acting. Even the few times I've talked to him, I kept thinking, "He sounds like Mr. Sulu."
I think he's one of those people (like Jackie Mason) whose voice is so distinctive that he can't get away from it. He has made a nice career with cartoon voice over, though.
Hmm...Jackie Mason as Usagi. Now that's a thought.

The problem I've been having with the voice of Usagi on the new TMNT animated series is that he actually sounds too "rabbit-y". The producers of the show must have seen Usagi's designs, thought "rabbit guy", and stopped there.
Everyone has their own version of Usagi's voice, but I've always heard it as young, vulnerable, but with the potential of being intimidating. The closest approximation of the way I hear Usagi's voice is David Wenham (Faramir in LORD OF THE RINGS: TWO TOWERS and RETURN OF THE KING). Seriously - just close your eyes and listen to him in the movies, and tell me whether or not I'm off the mark.

Well, it's odd, but I really LIKE the voice in the current TMNT series... I don't know why, but I can't imagine him sounding different.

I got used to Usagi's current voice. George would sound, like Stan says, too Sulu...his voice is unmistakable. Usagi's voice now it a hec of alot better than the old toon, I remember the first time I saw that..I was excited he was going to be on the show but his voice...ehh...it sounded i dunno..wrong. It didnt fit Usagi at all. This one now is alot better.
The dude who's doing Gen, is a crack up!! I love Gen!! I hope we see alot more of Gen and Usagi....clothed of course.
