Almost Caught Up!

I started reading Usagi again a few months ago. I finished purchasing all the trades and all the back issues that I missed after I dropped Usagi. I know, how could I possibly do that? But I came back, read all the trades from volume 1 to 19 (except 18. I don't own that one yet, but I read the individual issues.)
Now I have read issues 76 to 82. Only 7 more issues to go before Im all caught up and can actually join in conversations about the latest issues.
One thing that really struck me however while I was reading this morning is how characters come back when you least expect it. I love it. Like Koyama Matabei, who is seeking his father's murderers. I was reading along, really liking the character of Priest Hiroshi when I suddenly realize that he is one of the killers! Amazing stuff.
And it was good to see Stray Dog again a few issues earlier.
I think Usagi Yojimbo is one of the best comics out there, and has some of the greatest chracters around. Jei, Stray Dog, Gen, etc. All great characters.
I wonder if we will see Nezumi again. I really enjoyed that story.
Thanks

I just finished reading the last story arc! I am now caught up!
I couldn't put it down. As soon as I finished reading the letter page of one issue, I had to pick up the next one and start reading that one.
The Treasure of the Mother of Mountains is now one of my favourite epic story arcs. My favourite is still the Dragon Bellow Conspiracy.
Looking forward to next issue!

I'm working my way through the trades at a slow pace. I've done 1-8, and have (thanks to an Xmas gift card) Daisho on order. I'm still reading the current monthly issues and then get the trades after the fact.
The series is becoming such a major must read for me, it's hard to wait that month between issues.
And the funny thing is that I have a pen pal in Japan for the last 12 years or so, and until the most recent letter never even thought to mention that I was reading UY.
I blame it on mental idiocy.

What has your pen pal had to say about Usagi Yojimbo? Are they familiar with the series?
I corresponded briefly with a Japanese exchange student going to school in the U.S. He claimed to have never heard of the comic. His name was Tora Ame, and I though he was a girl initially, because of the similarity with Tomoe Ame. His name meant "Tiger Rain" which is a pretty cool, kind of a variation on typoon.
He first contacted me after reading a film review I had posted on the old Dojo forum about the movie "Heaven and Earth" which I had rented from Blockbusters. I sent him a copy of the film and a couple issues of Usagi, but he never got back in touch with me to give his opinion. He did mention an anime series in Japan which was supposed to be similar.
Abayo....

I'm still in the process of writing the most recent letter so it hasn't been sent out yet. I'll let you know if she responds to what I say.
