Return of the Topic of the Day

Since Monday was my birthday, I just want to show off part of the birthday present I bought myself, even though I am still waiting for it to arrive.
Image
Usagi Yoyimbo 2: Samuraj
[ISBN 917089-083-8]

Usagi Yojimbo is published by Epik in Sweden, and they have published the first two volumes as well as eleven issues in comic format. I believe the cover art for this volume was originally used on the s/n hardcover from Fantagraphics.

The other part of my birthday present was the volume #6 from King Comics in Italy, which arrived with perfect timing yesterday.

Here is a link for anyone interested in checking out the selection of Usagi Yojimbo comics on the Epik web-site:
http://www.epix.se/~u4520164/catalog/ad ... e08b415510

To find the listing for volume two, you need to run a search (Sök) for Stan Sakai. I don't know why it does not list with the other material.

Happy Birthday to ya!"

Thanks for contributing so much interesting stuff to the UY dojo boards. To me you are unofficial UY Historian.

May this year bring lots of joy and hope your way.

. . . and cool UY presents.

Peace,

maka

It doesn't look familiar.

Thank you for the birthday wishes. Book 2: Samuraj is in Swedish, and Book 6: Spettri e Ninja (Phantoms and Ninja) is in Italian.

Thank you for the birthday wishes. Technically, it was Tuesday where I'm at when I first posted this thread, so I was late first :D

Thanks for the Birthday wishes. Google! I figured out that you can run a search for a term like "Usagi Yojimbo" or "Stan Sakai" in a specific language (like Swedish, Croatian, Italian, etc), and that makes poking through the results a bit less random.

Thanks for the B-day wishes. I take it you own or have seen the cover of the Book #2 s/n hardcover edition? I know I have seen this picture somewhere and assumed it was from the hardcover edition. It sure isn't the first time I've been wrong. :D I know some of the Fantagraphics Books have had differant cover art for differant printings.

Anyways, I still like the cover of this book.

Just checked my hardcovers and didn't see it.

Happy birithday, Steve.

I did not even know that Epik is currently publishing UY. They had published a few stories in an anthology many, many years ago. I believe Mark Schulz's Cadilacs and Dinosaurs was also in it.

That particular cover was originally printed in the first UY Tide Mark calendar (for the year 2000, or somewhere around there). Fantagraphics asked if they could offer that image to their foreign licensees, since UY Book 2 is the only volume that had line-art, and not a painting, on the cover.

Thank you for the birthday greetings.

I knew I had seen that art before, I totally spaced on it being in the first calendar. With it being on Book 2, I assumed it was a much older piece of art.

Glad to hear you had a great time at Kawaii Kon.

Thank you.
I am really looking forward to the Swedish book.
