I used the weekend to catch up on my Usagi back issues. For those of you that don't know, I've been reading all of Usagi's appearances in order starting with Albedo #2 and, as a result, have never been up to date on current storylines.

Well, last week I was up to the begining of Grasscutter (Dark Horse #13). Now, after a reading frenzy, I'm up to #32. I'll catch up to the present soon enough, and then I'll regret running out of Usagi stories!

I wonder how long it will take an average reader to read every single UY story starting from Albedo NR 2 through the current issue, non-stop....

Depending upon my mood, I can finish an issue in fifteen minutes or forty five. My "I need to see how this story ends!" and "I've got to get to that next issue with the really cool cover" sides are constantly battling with my "let's pause and fully take in this beautiful panel" and "Let's look up Usagi's last meeting with this character and refresh our memory" sides. One amazing thing about Stan's work is how much time you can spend with it if you have the calmness of spirit and the appreciation for his work.

But, to better answer your question, you're talking about approximately 175 full length stories (or full issues of more than one story) and approximately 20 shorter stories in other comics.

175 x 15 min. = 43 hrs and 45 mins.
20 x 8 min. = approx. 2 hrs and 45 mins.

So you could theoretically do it in 46 and a half hours without stopping for food, sleep, or bathroom breaks.

MAN that makes me sound lazy. I've been following the continuity for almost three years!

I've still got a way to go to read them *all*, but I read "Gen's Story," "The Brink of Life and Death" and "Grasscutter" last Saturday and Sunday. And I've re-read them all over this past week. I found a public library with an exstinsive "Usagi" collection, including "Space Usagi" which I think I'll read next.

That's some library!

The trouble with reading an entire run is putting all those issues back in the bags.

You try to put them away the moment you've finished reading them, but after a while you get lazy and just put them down...so now you have twenty, thirty issues in a pile and the unending fear of what must follow when your finished.

In regards to the title of this thread, I would not say a Usagi reading binge is any indication of madness.

As for rebagging comics, I don't think it's that bad, (Unless you get the tape on the comic as you put it back in. Ugh.) but if it bothers you that much, graphic novels are an excellent alternative.

Incidentally, I'm now up to #39 (Grasscutter II)!

When I get comics in bags with tape on them I just take off the tape and throw it out. True, my comic boxes have little slips of plastic sticking out of them, but it keeps the comics in good condition.

As for graphic novels, I say it depends. If you're collecting UY, then the graphic novels are better. In SW (my previous comic obsession), I say the comics are better. I say this because Star Wars TPB's have bad binding. For the most part, they fall apart when I read them (and I'm very careful with my graphic novels). So far, UY graphic novels are much better.

My library isn't too good. They only have like 5 UY books, (3 of which I have anyway) and 3 were checked out.

Now up to issue #48

I'm up to issue #61 and heading off to the coffee shop to read 5-10 more with the help of a nice, warm mocha. Usagi and coffee shop atmospheres: the ideal combination for relaxation after a stressful day.

That actually sounds like a pretty good idea! I'll need it after today...
