Dr Osamu Tezuka began pubication of Tetsuwan Atomu, or Astro Boy, in 1951. Today (April 7, 2003) is the day that was designated as when the robot boy was brought to life.
There's some celebrating in Japan, with a museum exhibit, a parade, and even the train station in his home town has adopted the Astro Boy theme.
Happy birthday!

Check it out
here!!
You'll need a Japanese-enabled web browser to see the page, though.
Happy Birthday!!

Nice... Hopefully someday we'll be able to see UY comics translated to Japanese...

. And some people might be able to even read them!

.
[OFF-TOPIC]: I was wondering, how do you build wepages in Japanese or any other language with a non-romanic alphabet? How do you do it in Flash MX (or Swish)? I'm asking because I'm beginning to learn HTML, PHP and Flash by myself and since someone from the Dojo built that page then probably he/she could tell me...

. Or maybe he/she could point me out to a webpage with some tutorials about it, so we wouldn't bore the rest of people with stuff that has nothing to do with UY... Thanks!

Have a look at
http://www.unicode.org/charts/unihan.html
There you can find the numbers which map to the various Unicode characters. For example, the character with the number 514E (hex), 20814 (decimal) would be written 兎 or 兎 in HTML code (or in this posting) and gives (if you have a web browser which can display Japanese characters):
兎 - USAGI.
Then your software must support Unicode (all web browsers do, PHP does but I don't know about Flash), you must have an editor which allows to enter kanji and then the problems start

There's a good set of articles connected to the Robot Expo just past in Japan on the BBC website:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/in_depth/pho ... 919393.stm
They have a link to the Expo's own site, which is heavily laden with Astroboy imagery. Most of the other links are Japanese-only to the various manufacturers, which I'm sure are very cool for nihongo speakers (which I'm not, yet).
