Hi! I am a new fan of Usagi and I just found this forum. I'm a big fan of Mike Mignola and I've been a member of the hellboy forum for a few years now. I am an artist newly unemployed (and loving it actually!) having just closed my (with two partners) business of ten years, Starfish Glassworks. http://www.starfishglass.bc.ca/

I have a small but growing collection of comic art - 3 pages of hellboy plus one non sequential piece, several things from the delightful Guy Davis, and many (10 I think) original pages of Mouse Guard from fellow hellbuddy David Petersen. I see that Stan doesn't sell his usagi pages - sigh.

I get to meet Stan Sakai soon as we are going to MotorCity Comic Con to sit David's booth with him and hang out with Guy and some other kool comic folks - looking forward to it immensely!

ok that's it for now - too much information perhaps

Welcome to the UY Dojo! :D New faces are always welcome.

Out of curiosity, how did you hear about Stan attending the (spring?) Motor City Con?

I can't be positive, but going by what Stan just recently posted, he is only attending San Diego Comic Con International and a comic festival in Spain this year, now that MegaCon in Orlando has passed.

I was thinking the same, until I just looked at the Motor City Comic Con page...They have Stan listed as a confirmed guest.

ya I saw that post by Stan too but as you say he seems to be on their guest list. I found out from David months and months ago before I ever read a Usagi in fact it's partly why I finally did pick one up - had been meaning to for a while.

oh, and thanks for the welcome!

I think the Motor City Con gets a little ahead of itself sometimes on announcing confirmed guests before the guests have actually confirmed. They had Sergio Aragones confirmed last year I think when he was actually attending a convention out west (WonderCon I think).

I am kind of bummed out if the Motor City Con was one of the appearences Stan did receive an invitation to and pass on it. I did get to meet Stan once at a Motor City Convention a few years ago, way back in '94.

wow that would suck if he's not going to be there.

sigh

I'll see if I can find out one way or the other.

Thanks very much for the welcome!

I regret that my first post has come off as a bit name-droppy. I was trying to indroduce myself and mention anything relevant to this board but in retropsect I think I kinda over did it.

pardon me

Hello and

Herzlich Willkommen im Dojo;

No harm done; I think contributing anything informative about UY and/or Stan Sakai is always welcome here, as are new members...

Besides, you never know what turns up in a valley when you're standing on a cliff, throwing stones...

Welcome to the Dojo, Morna-san. I'm sure you'll have a good time here.

The Motor City Con is news to me as well. I did see Gary Bishop at MegaCon, but he did not extend an invitation. Maybe he thought he did. We'll clear it up once I return from New York. Motor City is a con that I would be very willing to attend. It's a very nice convention, and some of my favorite people will be there--Guy Davis, David Petersen, Billy Tucci, etc. They also have the best pro suite of any convention.

Sergio was scheduled to be there last year, but had a conflict with a convention in California in which Jordi Bernet was a guest. If he will be going to Detroit this year, all the more reason for me to travel there. I would rather travel with someone, and Sergio is my second favorite traveling companion.

I'm doing a Mouse Guard pin-up for David. He did one for Usagi, and we're trading originals as well. Since I'm dropping names left and right, I just received a package from Guy Davis containing the original art for his 4 pages in UY 100. I also sent him my two page introduction to his segment.

Sergio is also listed among the guests but ironically David Petersen, who IS going for sure isn't - odd

I'm wondering if there's any way we can help with you getting to MCCC, Sensei. I tried e-mailing them at the address they give on the website to humbly request that they confirm your attendance but I got it bounced back. : (

... but I bet if a bunch of people requested it they might get on with asking you properly!

Steam some edamame and warm up the car! I'm smelling a possible 11 hour road trip.. :D

We can rent a van and bring the whole Florida chapter of the dojo up to Detroit and have an Usagi party!

Well, if anyone from the Dojo goes to the con in Novi, let me know. I would like to meet other members of the dojo.
