But I can't find a place that has the new issues locally. Is it possible to get like a subscription?

Unfortunately, Dark Horse does not offer Usagi subscriptions.
Many comic shops will order comics, books, and toys for you. If your comic shop offers the Diamond Previews catalog, you can order it from them through the book.

I can't find anywhere here that gets a regular supply of Usagi either, so I just end up ordering issues every 2-3 months from somewhere in the US (as I also order other comics at the same time, the postage works out okay across the lot).

Thank you very much guys. I will go down to the shop today and tell them about the diamond preview and ask them about ordering. THere is still some catching up that needs to be done. Once all the back issues are read certainly will want to get looking at the new issues. I'm sure it will work out. It's a good idea to to order a handful at once also to save on shipping. Online sometimes I saw it was almost $4.00 to ship one issue. THank you very much for the tips.

DARK HORSE, DIAMOND EXPAND AGREEMENT

Press Release
In a dramatic expansion of a relationship that has brought outstanding and diverse works of graphic storytelling to the marketplace for more than two decades, Dark Horse Books has selected Diamond Book Distributors (DBD) to handle distribution of its graphic novels in the U.K. and international book markets, effective immediately.
Furthermore, Dark Horse has selected DBD to handle distribution of its M Press and DH Press imprints in the North American, U.K. and international book markets.
“With Dark Horse’s U.K. bookstore sales more than tripling over the last three years, there couldn’t be a better time to begin this new chapter in our long relationship with Diamond,” said Dark Horse Comics Vice-President of Business Development Michael Martens. “Dark Horse Comics has been doing business with Diamond Comic Distributors since our company was founded in 1986, and Dark Horse Books was the first major graphic novel publisher to sign on with Diamond Book Distributors. Both of those relationships have been extremely fruitful, and we look forward to expanding that relationship as DBD takes our titles into the U.K. and other international book markets.”
“All of us at DBD are very excited to be working with Dark Horse in this new capacity,” said DBD Vice President of Sales & Marketing Kuo-Yu Liang. “In 2006, our sales in the U.K. and other international territories have experienced high double-digit growth. Anything I can't get from my store I use ebay.
I also often use a comic store in Leeds that is very good (and always has Usagi listed when it comes out). They are very nice people, have cheap comics and charge cheap postage and packing as well.

Hope this helps!
I also can't find a source of Usagi Comics.

The guy at the comic shop was saying it was easiest for me just to order online than through Previews. Not sure if that is helpful to anyone else?

Ask if the comic shop can set up a pull list for you where they order a copy of the comics you want each month specifically for you as part of their monthly orders and you do not have to actually place a Previews order every month. Pull lists are great for series where you want each issue that is released.
Ordering through Previews is nice for the single issue you want because of a special story or guest artist (like Solo #11 which featured the art of Sergio Aragones), or for ordering special releases, calendars, posters, TPB's, etc.
As far as the guy telling you to just order your comics on-line, ask the guy if the shop owner knows he is turning away customers. Or if the guy is the owner, ask him why he would willingly turn down potential sales. Either way, the guy sounds like an idiot.

I agree with Steve. This sound really off.
If you have a local comic shop that gets weekly comics in, he should easily get Usagi Yojimbo in for you.
Usagi is on my weekly pull list, so whenever it comes in, it get immediately pulled and set aside for me. Most comic shops have this kind of thing for its members.

And numbers shouldn't matter! My shop orders the small number of copies for us. (We're in a small market, sorry to report the numbers are small.)
And the pull service is free.
What a silly store owner that person is to not order it for you....
