SDCC

Post by TristJones »

Hi everyone (and Stan of course)!

Just wondering how many people here are going to be going to San Diego this year?

I'm heading in for the first time (fortunately as a professional!) though I'm pretty sure I'm going to be a small fish in the big sea! Some kinda lost Australian with too many things to look forward to there!

Also for Stan, if you see this, will you be there for the whole Con or only a couple of days here or there?

Peace!

I will be there for the entire con, even Wednesday's Preview Night. I guess it's about time to start that "What should I bring" thread.

Thanks for getting back to me Stan, hopefully (if you're not busy of course... which is probably wishful thinking on my behalf!) I'll be able to meet you on the Wednesday night.

A "What should I bring thread" would definitely help a first timer like me out!

If there are any Turtle fans here going, be sure to give me a heads up! Hopefully I'll be able to bring along some extra copies of Tales #36 (if it's out in time for the con of course!).

Peace!

@TristJones:

Ehm, I think Sensei was rather thinking about what he should bring for attending fans...

But if you are looking for any hints and tips about SDCC, take a look here:

http://www.usagiyojimbo.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3040

Really amusing, even if one (like myself) can't go there...the article made me think about why I should ever want to go there, however...
Greetings from overseas

The comicreporter site that Thomas refers to is excellent for an overview of the con. However, since this will be your first time at San Diego and especially since you are from another country, you may have questions not covered in the article--best way to get from the airport, where my favorite Greek food, where's the nearest market, is there an office supply store nearby, is there a good place to get sushi, etc.

Feel free to ask them in this forum.

I have good news, as of last night, my quest to get a new roomie was accomplished! I am now set and back to planning to attend again this year!

I'll wait to add anything to Stan's list, when posted.
I'd certainly add myself as a TMNT fan to Trist's post.
I'll be happy to help out with SDC tricks and tips info, too.

And yes, I am still planning on bringing the Leo costume from last year's Masquerade--although with the way the crowds run, I would prefer to not wear it on the floor on Saturday. Thurs or Fri would be better.
Anyone going to be cosplaying as a character from Usagi Yojimbo? I'd like to coordinate with that, if so.

I can't make this years SDCC, (As I have to come from the UK) but I think (well, I'm really really hoping) that I'll be able to make next year. It'll be my first time at a Con, lol.

Hope everyone has a great time!

Sweet! We'll make sure the Dojo Meeting is on Friday this year. I gotta get me a close up look at that costume!

So I was going to ask if there was going to be anything special-- is there anything in stone about meeting up?

And Leonardo, I MUST get a piccie with you in that Leo costume!

No begging needed!!!
As long as I have a floor guide to help me get through the Con, I'll be fine.
(Don't have a lot of visibility in that thing.)
Riding the bus should be insane enough...although I don't think I'll be boarding the bus with the head on....
I also think missing the first morning rush crowd would be a good idea, too.

But I wish at least one of the Usagi costumed members could make it to the Con. That'd be awesome!

Sunday I'll be wearing my new costume I'm finishing from the Bleach series. One of the other days I can wear my Kenshin again.
If I had access to more sophisticated stuff it would be fun to do a character from Usagi series someday, but making the heads is a little beyond me at the moment. More practice...we'll see!!

I hope you have someone helping you get through the Con in that Leo costume!

And yes, you need to work on a Tomoe Ame style outfit! You could put little cat ears in the wig, and you could just do makeup for the face!

Oh, and Tristan (sp?)-- HOW can we meet you there? I'd like to meet you! I'm a turtle fan!

Hey Cynlee!

This being my first con, I have no idea how! I'd suggest all the Turtles fans (if they're planning a meet or anything) work out where they're all going to be at what time and post it up at the 'Drome message boards or something like that. I'm a bit of a board lurker, so I'm bound to see if anyone's planning anything and can chime in and say hi! I'd love to catch some other fans out there too, from my own fanboy P.O.V. as well as having a couple of stories out there!

By the way - #36 went to press this week, meaning it should be out either this week or the next! Exciting stuff!

That confirms it, then!
We must all meet up. Prepare to be autographing comics, Trist! Thank you for keeping us informed.
I'll do what I can to get it from my comic shop if it ships to the store in time and bring it.

There's certainly options on places to meet.
Because the Con is so massive it would probably be best to set up a day, time, and place before we all leave for the Con. Otherwise the odds of us randomly finding Trist are pretty slim.
And the only problem with during the main day hours will be the programming, because we could end up with a time that some fans want to attend a panel. But I'm sure something can be set up!!
Looking forward to this meeting!

Speaking of which, now that the official SDCC schedule is online, I've been looking for a good opportunity to do the Dojo Gathering. Kim, you said Friday right? That's when I'll look to have the gathering...

Sometime after 2PM looks good that day. The schedule is such a cluster this year, hard to figure out what to do as things are so overlapping. Depending on Stan's availability around this time, that may be when we do it. Hope this will work for those on the 'Board who will be attending. There's no way in Enma's Hell we can have it on Saturday

I am also considering having the gathering at a location other than Stan's booth. The con floor is so congested nowadays that it makes holding the gathering too cumbersome. Back in the late 90s this simply wasn't the case. More on this later....

Can we get a list of UY members of who's going to be there...so we can meet up?
