Hello from San Diego! Here's a few pics to whet your appetites....

WEDNESDAY - JULY 25 - PREVIEW NIGHT

Preview night was insane. Never have I seen the floor this packed before. Wait yes, I have...last year on Evil Saturday! At any rate, Kari, Anthony, and I picked up our badges, planned out Thursday's strategy...then went head to head with the crowd in the Exhibition Hall. What a madhouse! We did get a chance to head by Stan's booth. The new issue, #104 was out! I was able to get a copy of that, plus the Book 21 Hardcover, and the latest French UY manga trade from Stan. Anthony scored his first ever original piece of Stan Sakai art...two original pages actually, from UY #100...Thanks Stan!!

I checked out the Dark Horse Pavilion...it appeared to be Dojo-Gathering-Friendly...we'll see what happens.

After preview night, we went to Hard Rock Cafe for dinner, then back to the hotel. I read UY #104... awesome issue! Looking forward to a great time here at SDCC. More pics and coverage to follow. Also check out G4 as I believe they are covering the Con.

DAY 1 - THURSDAY - July 27

Another wild day at Comic-Con. Today I just started taking photos of the Con in general. I also went to Hall H for the Paramount Panel, then over to the Groo 25th Anniversary panel in Room 8. After that it was off to the Lost panel, then the premiere of Superman Doomsday.

Here's just a few pics I took... I'm going to put an album together on this site for all the rest.

Capcom had a guy in a Mega Man costume that was really cool.

I gotta shot with Optimus Prime! "One shall stand...one shall fall"

Image
Swung around Stan's booth to see how the new sketch restrictions were holding up...Stan was mainly doing simple head sketches in people's sketchpads. He did say it was really tough to turn fans down. But the eBay stuff has gotten really bad.

Image
The Indiana Jones presentation...live from Europe! Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford (dressed up in full costume) had a a few words on the new movie. Harrison was looking a little tired....

Image
JJ Abrams on the new Star Trek movie!

Image
Both Sylar and Leonard Nimoy will be playing Spock in the new Trek movie

The Groo 25th panel!

More to follow........

Lesson 2: Stan Sakai is a talented cartoonist and an extremely gracious man. When an Australian fan visited Sakai's booth, the veteran author of the Usagi Yojimbo comic books presented his admirer with an autographed poster – no charge.

“Thank you so much,” sputtered Tristan Jones, a 22-year-old from Melbourne. “Meeting you – and everything!”

Have fun all, guess I will read up when I get back from Vegas :)

(notes Anthony bought the cool 2 page spread attack pic from #100, with me on it too!)

I'm the guy with glasses running away behind Sharon and family seated at the table on the far right of the right page :)

(I had been sorely tempted to offer to buy that page myself, but I guess Anthony beat me to it!)

Be sure that I will make sure I can be there next year... next summer is gonna be busy, my best mate is getting married first weekend of August... and that's just for starters. Miss seeing you all, have fun!

thanks

Just like last year a big thank you to you Todd for letting me live vicariously through you and your pictures. I won't ever get there but I always check out the shots each year at the Dojo. Thanks again and keep 'em coming...
