I wanted to send a quick intro note to the dojo. Hi, my name is Alden. I recently moved to Kansas City, Kansas, USA. I work as a filmmaker and martial art instructor. So obviously the comic geek inside me found TMNT and Usagi :P
I have been reading Usagi for a good seven years or so. I pretty much collect the TPBs and finally was able to pick up the latest one (since moving, I can't find a comic store that carries Usagi).

I was lucky enough to find this site early July and found out that Stan was going to be at SDCC. It was my first trip there and I was able to meet him and his wife at his booth in the morning before the mass of people arrived.

What really impressed me, as I mentioned to him, was his relationship to his fans. That this group seems like a pretty close knit group. I also noticed that the Dojo group met up there, unfortunately, I wasn't around then to participate. But, I did picked up my first Usagi art piece, which Stan was gracious enough to sign and draw a quick sketch on.

Anyway, now I am obsessed with original art and on the lookout for it.

I was wondering a couple things:

Firstly, Stan, do you have a regular schedule of conventions you hit? Is there a list of the conventions you plan on going to next?

Secondly, if someone, such as myself, wanted a commission/custom art piece, is it possible to get this done? Is there a list I would have to get on?

Ok I guess that wasn't that short. Sorry :P

The nature of Monkey was irrepressable

To answer the questions in general, Stan posts in advance which conventions he has been invited to and which ones he will likely be attending. San Diego is a given though heh.

As for commissions, send Stan an email or PM regarding that. The price will depend on the size and complexity. I believe you can only pick them up in person (no mailing out) so it would be best to arrange it for a time you will next meet Stan.

Welcome to The Boards, Alden.

The only convention I attended every year is San Diego. The next con I am going to is Florida's MegaCon in, I think, March. I'm invited to quite a few cons, most of which I have to decline because of time.

I was invited to Kansas City's Planet Con last year, but could not go because I was just returning from another con. Perhaps next year if I'm invited again.

I take commissions only just before or at conventions. As a rule, I don't work through the mails. I don't have the time. I do not sell story pages, but I do sell covers, pin-ups, end papers, spot drawings, and just about everything else.

Stan-san, I can't believe you "almost" came to KC. I think I will talk with the programers this year and put a bug in theit ear about you. If you do make it over here, I promise to take you guys out for some Kansas City BBQ :D

But again, thanks for the warm welcome, I will see you all in the forums and hopefully at a con in the future. Also, if anyone uses facebook, look under "Alden Miller" and send me a Hello.

Welcome to the board! (although I'm fairly new myself)

And welcome to KC! I was starting to think I was the only one in the area who read UY!

Welcome Monkey!!! In the Chinese zodiac I was born on the year of the Monkey! I know that you will like it here! The community is friendly and diverse. We hail from all over. I myself have been a Usagi fan since my college days many, many moons ago. I have a ton of the comics and quite a few of the trade paperbacks. Usagi also got me interested in Samurai Cinema in a big way and I have quite a few COOL flicks in my collection now. I'm also a BIG fan of "period" Kung Fu movies and am a dyed in the wool Bruce Lee nut. Plus I used to watch the "Kung Fu" t.v. series religiously.( I have the 1rst season on DVD.) So...welcome to our "universe" and may you enjoy your visits! Abayo!! :D
