110

I'm sorry if I missed it but no one seems to be talking about issue 110 that came out on Wednesday.

It was once again a fantastic self contained story. I hope Gen has learned his lesson with being cheap and arrogant. The Foxes were great and I hope we see them again sometime in the future.

I did like how this story shows that Gen and Usagi are indeed good friends by having Gen know the Fox wasn't Usagi by the way he reacted to getting hit in the jaw.

Another fantastic issue.

I'll try to avoid *spoilers* at this point, so I'll just say:

The existence of such characters raises some possibilities, doesn't it? Hmm...

Tomoe saved Usagi from his first run-in with a trickster fox in the story "Fox Fire" which originally appeared in the third Usagi Yojimbo Color Special (Sep/1992) and which is going to be reprinted in Usagi Yojimbo Book 22: Tomoe's Story. Unfortunately, I can't remember if it was one of the nine-tailed variety.

And, of course, issue #110 is another fantastic story by Stan!

I liked this issue quite a bit. I am still getting started in the UY story, so the single issue stories are a little bit easier for me to follow. I liked the emphasis on Gen. I am really starting to like him as a character, rough edges and all. With Gen's dialogue with himself, I was able to see the close relationship between Gen and Usagi.

I just found the Color Special #3, so I will have to read that for it's fox encounter as well.

I've picked up my copy at my local comic shop and couldn't resist reading it right away, pushing the stroller with my youngest child; Fortunately, I know the way good enough to find it while sleeping, and Nele had many other interesting things to look at...

I for one found Gen a bit, well, how to put it,.... dim-witted. Thinking with his swords and not with his brain... There could have been many other ways to test if it really was Usagi, other than going in for a fight...

But then again, maybe that would not have been like Gen, kind of strange behaviour qualifying him to be the trickster fox...

And I doubt that he has learned much from that encounter. He seems more like a person who's read so many articles about the bad side effects of smoking that he finally decides to give it up completely....reading articles, that is... :D

I loved this story. It reminded me a lot of the older Usagi/Gen stories from the Critters days. Too good.

Dear Readers,
When i first saw the cover i wondered what was odd about Usagi's eyes.
I was hooked right from the cover.
Sensei Sakai, thank you very much for this wonderful gem.
Best wishes to all!

I have to say, the entire dotted eye thing kind of threw me! At first I wondered if someone was guesting as artist.

I liked the story very much. And my current crop of students have been reading it over and over.

Still, I hope that eye thing isn't a permanent feature...

Dots for eyes have been used in the past. Have they never been used so extensively?

Or what did you mean?

Now my copy's finally arrived... nice story, and yeah exposes Gen's usual stingy nature. Can't imagine he's gonna change though ;)

I mean I'm so used to seeing Usagi with "eyes"-- I know the "dotted eyes" have been used before, but it just... well, seemed odd to me to see it pretty much all throughout the story.

It is noticeable, especially now that you brought it up.

Every once in a while there will be a panel with Usagi in the distance, and there won't be any facial features, just a cross of two lines. Take a look at the top panel on p. 15 of # 108. The other three characters pictured have some facial features.
