Hi Stan, would you please give us whatever pertinent information you can about where you'll be and when, regarding the Obon Matsuri on the 19th? I'd love to go and seem to have this Saturday free, so any news would be good news. Plus I can't seem to find a website for the event or much info on the net at all. Thanks!

for contributing to my self-portrait sketchbook!

As Cheryl said, you are my favorite artist so the sketchbook feels complete now that I have your image. Thank you so much for agreeing to do it again! (disclaimer: I had asked Mr. Sakai to do this sketch many years ago before the no sketch policy. It wasn't until Saturday that I was able to make a signing).

Thanks for suggesting Willie Ito contribute as well. It was fun to hear his story about his first day at Disney, drawing the animation for the famous spaghetti scene in Disney's "Lady and the Tramp."

The obon festival was a lot of fun. We did participate in the dancing and listened to taiko drumming afterwards. It was a great family night out.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Willie Ito drawing behind that one. Who else has contributed to your self-portrait notebook, Maka?

Ito also worked on some of the classic Warner Brothers cartoons, and IIRC, on the first Looney Tunes DVD set (or maybe the second), there's a little documentary segment in which he talks about working on "What's Opera, Doc?", which is one of my favorite cartoons.

I'll try to get the photo of it up before I leave for vacation (on Wednesday). We are busy having a few friends over for dinner tonight and tomorrow night while we try to clean and pack up, so I may not be able to.

Other artist include John Totleben, Stephen R. Bissette (I'm a big swamp thing fan), Paul Smith, Art Spiegelman, Art Adams, Mark Martin, Brett Anderson to name a few. There is also some writers, like Douglas Adams, Garrison Keiller, Alex Ross, Scott McCloud, and James Roberson. And a bunch of friends and family too. It's a lot of fun.
