Issue #69 Out! SPOILERS-Read Issue First-Then Come Talk
"Fathers and Sons" Part 1. A good story. Told mostly in the style of "Lone Wolf and Cub", i.e., without dialog, at least where Yagi and Gorogoro are involved. Liked the bit with the deliverymen looking at the reward sign while you know who walks by in the background. Good sight gag! Usagi's encounter with Neneki was short but dramatic. Inconclusive, though. I wonder if he'll come back to trouble Usagi and Jotaro in the future. Great to see Gorogoro again, as silent as ever. I liked the intervals with the deliverymen on the road-they kind of remind me of the bickering peasants in Kurosawa's "The Hidden Fortress". Can't blame 'em for telling the local crime boss about where Yagi is. I would too for a reward (guess that makes me a scoundrel, oh well). Usagi had better hurry! Can't wait to see how this turns out.

I really liked this issue. That's not to say I dont like every issue, but I really like Gorogoro and Yagi. There is something about Yagi's expressions I love, and Gorogoro is almost expressionless, except in defense of his fallen father. I also had a question for Stan. Is the cover of Fantagraphics issue #38 inspired by the scene in Throne of Blood, when Mifune has that look of horroron his face as he sees the arrows in the wall? I always thought that was such a beautiful shot, and I hadn't realized that the Usagi cover kinda looked like it... Anyhow, great read, this issue #69.
