I for one would be over the moon if it were to happen,I am currently getti ng all the Usagi books and everything else Stan Sakai has done,and would so much like to see a Nilson book,and meeting with Usagi,which would be terrific,

what do the rest of you guys think ?

Yes, Dark Horse and other publishers have wanted to do a Nilson collection. I even still have all the original artwork, but not the couple of covers.

I just got busy with other projects, and eventually forgot about Nilson. One of the problems for me is that there is only about 100 pages of Nilson stories-- a bit too long for a comic, but pretty thin for a trade collection.

How about reprinting the three stories which you did for Phil Yeh's Patrick Rabbit along with the Nilson stories? And maybe even the 2 page story from Absolute Zero. Of course, there is the 12 Little Critters story as well....

I would also suggest adding all your "biographical" stories but personally, I would prefer to see them included in an illustrated volume collecting your travel reports from all your various trips (including both photographs and artwork), something along the lines of Mark Evanier's books collecting his POV articles (but neater)....

Maybe we need a volume of "Stan Sakai Extras" including Nilson, Terry Miyamoto, obscure Usagi appearances, and material from the Usagi sketchbooks?

I would definitely by a Nilson Groundthumper TPB even if it was a little thin for a TPB. I think most of the Groo collections published by Dark Horse are only around 100 pages, so a TPB of that length isn't unheard of. If the book just included the Nilson Groundthumper stories, that would be fine with me, but of course, any bonuses would sweeten the deal for me.

I can only support the ideas brought to the table here by the gentleman in front of me and steve all the way, too...
I would buy a nilson book no matter how less pages or thin it may appear on the first look...any bonus material would make my day on a different level...I think the idea of putting out travel reports is fine, too....

I probably would be interested in reading it, I don't know if I would be enough to actually buy it. I've only heard the outline of the story, but it's relation to USagi intrigues me.

One thing in particular interests me: How similar to Nilson to Usagi in terms of story? I heard Nilson is like this story with the animals against the humans (Hikiji), and the story ends with the humans winning.

So my question is, if the Usagi story takes stuff from Nilson Groundthumper, is Usagi also going to eventually end with the humans (Hikiji) winning? Or is the battle with Mifune against Hikiji supposed to be a nod to that?

That was Stan's initial idea (or was it the initial idea for UY? I forget.), but the published Nilson Groundthumper stoires aren't anything like that. They're all pretty short, mostly self-contained stories. A bit more on the light and humorous side than UY, but Stan's style is readily apparent (it also reminds me just a tiny bit of Bone).

BTW, if you ever get a chance to have Stan sign an old issue of Critters with a Nilson Groundthumper story, I highly recommend it:
