New guy to the boards says hello!

Hello, all!

My name is Joe, and relative to many of you, I am new to the world of UY. Currently I'm storming through volume 8 of the trades and I'm dying to catch up with the current single issues. Since 8 and 9 are currently out of print, I was on a forced hiatus from reading UY for three months till I found them at "the other" comic book store in Grand Rapids, MI.

I don't remember what first made me decide to pick up Book 1 of the trades. Like many, I discovered Usagi through my old childhood fling with the Ninja Turtles. Finally deciding to read the UY had something to do with my starting Shinkendo--a form of Japanese Swordsmanship. What amazes me most are seeing little subtle things Sensei teaches us show up in the comic--that thumb that readies itself over the tsuba of his Katana. . . . ART!!

Just saying hello. and begging that Mr. Sakai comes to either Wizard World Chicago or the Motor City Comic Con this year. I'm dying to meet him to say what he's probably heard many times before. . . .

Thanks! I hope to be around to stalk the boards every now and again!

Hey Joe, welcome to the UY Dojo forum! New fans are always welcome here!

In case you didn't notice the particular thread, Stan Sakai might be attending the Motor City Comic Con this year.

Just curious, which comic shop do you consider the "other" one? Tardy's? Apparittions? Argos? Outer Limits? Is the Outer Limits still even open?

Geez, GR still has so many comic shops compared to Kalamazoo. All we still have is Fanfare.

Haa haa! The 'other' store for me is Apparitions. My pull list is at Outer Limits. I became an Outer Limits guy and gave them my business because way back when I really started reading comics, they learned my name and started holding books they thought I might like to read. It was uncanny, because they had me and my taste in books figured out before I even considered myself a regular. There are bigger stores in town, but they're a bunch of good folks, there.

Well, I really hope the Detroit con works out! That would be fantastic!

For now it's time to head to work!

See you all around the boards!

Welcome aboard.

What you may not be aware of, Wildfire, is that every new member has to give $5 (USD) to all other members of the board.

Sorry, I don't make the rules.

Well, fiddlesticks. Five dollars, huh? Did I mention I was a public school teacher and I'm currently pursuing my masters degree in drawing? I'm one broke bubba. Haa ha.

It'll be nice to get to know you folks anyway. I'll be hanging around for a while! I've never had the patience for message boards before--or the stick-to-it-iv-ness, but I'm interested in hanging around and contributing to the occasional discussions.

Elsetime!

And no: Sorry, no five dollars. I will, however, give you a high five when I see some of you at the Motor City Con!!

I keep tellin' estee that that is never going to work the way he puts it. He is supposed to say that new Dojo members are supposed to buy everyone a copy of the next Usagi issue released (but it is less expensive to just send everyone five bucks and tell them to buy it themselves).

Teachers have to pay extra. Believe me, I know-- I'm still trying to get it together, and I've been here for a bit.

Hey, where do I go to find out about all you folks? Who are the regulars? Where are y'all from? What do you all do besides lurk around on a message board?

Who knows how long my attention span will last, but I intend on hanging out here regularly and get to know people. It'll make visiting and meeting people at the Motor City con interesting whether Mr. Sakai shows up or not (fingers crossed!)

Elsetime!

If we just tell you, then where's the challenge?

There's no page that tells you about us-- only about Stan.

The rest of us are ninja.....

Well, at least I am. >.>

There are a couple of thread on who some of us are. But I just tried to search them and had no luck.

Where are we from. Fanfan put together a google map of some fans: http://map.usagiyojimbo.fr/

There are too many regulars to list but here are a few:

Mr. Sakai - The best cartoonist - why we are here.

Todd - the creator of this site. Without Todd, www.usagiyojimbo.com would not be what it is today.

Steve H - the guy who is the most complete UY / Stan Sakai completist. He sometimes mails an Usagi christmas card, if you get on his good side. ;) Very generous.

Mayhem - UK guy who owns some of the coolest original UY art and often helps bring UY collectibles to Europe fans.

Fanfan - Stan Sakai's personal tour guide in Europe. Also creator of Fr. UYD

Go - Knows what rare UY stuff is on eBay

Jet - provides us with some of the most interesting links to explore.

There are a ton of other people who are interesting, friendly, helpful, caring and wonderful. I just can't name them all. Many put together a gratitude gift to Mr. Sakai as part of the 25th anniversary celebration: http://25yearsof.usagiyojimbo.com/

My favorite part of this message board is there is rarely any of the rudeness that you find on other message boards. We all like Usagi and that seems to be enough to treat each other with respect and dignity. I like that a lot. It's a really nice on-line community.

Welcome to the dojo!

Peace, maka
