Sensei in Berlin

So folks, it's just a little more than four weeks until Sensei and his wife will visit Berlin!

Am I excited? You guess!! So much so, I've got difficulties typing...

Nevertheless, I've taken responsibility for organizing some kind of Dojo Sight-seeing/Meeting/Dinner/Whatever Event, and I'm looking forward to it.
The two will arrive late in the afternoon on Monday, the 30th of August (first trying to recover from their journey, I suspect), so meeting would be early next morning (being the Tuesday, the 31rst of August) for a hopefully pleasureable walk around Berlin (light lunch, bigger dinner).

Everybody here interested in joining us is invited, too. There are just a few buts:

Sight seeing: I'll give a guided tour around Berlin and we're going to see pretty much of both historical and contemporary Berlin including some glimpses of the Berlin Wall. This tour will be given in English (I'll have to get some exercise for that :? ), in honor of and respect for our special guests.
The tour will be mainly a walking tour, so comfortable footwear is recommended. Small refreshments can be bought almost everywhere, but it may be wise to bring your own, especially soft drinks.

Dinner: Because I'll have to make a reservation for our dinner table, I need to know how many people will turn up. And, please keep in mind that everybody will have to pay for their own bill (midpriced, but good quality restaurant, expect to pay between 25- 45 € including soft drinks per person); I'd rather invite you all, but my bank account says otherwise
Everybody wanting to join us for diner, please PM me (preferably well in advance), so I can make the proper arrangements.

And, of course, it is possible to take part in either the tour or the dinner if your individual schedule does not allow for both. I'll provide everybody participating with my cell phone number, so you could join us anywhere along the route.

Please feel free to ask should any questions arise.

Sounds like a fun time in the making. :D

With today's technology, it sure would be cool if you could do a live stream video of the tour and dinner.....

But I am sure that is probably out of the question, so how about lots of photos? :D

Sharon and I will be going to dinner.

While we are on the subject of Berlin, is there anything you would like me to bring? I know Thomas and Mayhem want the UY Book 24 hardcover (I hope to receive them soon). You can post your wants here or PM me.

Too bad we'll be there too late for the Superhero exhibit at the Jewish Museum. I would have liked to have my picture taken with Superman:

Ah, a good thing you remind me!
I've wanted to visit that exhibit since it was advertised, but couldn't find the time...maybe they'll extend it a bit or keep the Superman sculpture for a few days longer; I'll ask them when I get to see it.

well, I originally intended to fly to berlin to meet you all there and watch the city as well as some exhibitions(they are now showcasing a very good frieda kahlo exhibition with tons of her original paintiings, but the show won't last till the end of august...but they have a permanent one of salvador dali and now this superrabbis looks amazing, too..)...but at this moment it is still unclear to me if my girlfriend and I will be able to join you there...I'll let you know next week!
peace

Hi,

after your postings, I'm not that sure, if it was so wise from me, to book only the eurofurence in Magdeburg... :?

Anyway- I wish all of you a nice meeting in Berlin!

Later I'll report, how it was in Magdeburg...

Greetings,
Jens

We will have some free time in Magdeburg. I know there is a cathedral there, but is there any other sights to see? Can anyone recommend day trips, perhaps even on the train?

Most of my activities will be in the afternoons and evenings.

Any particular kinds of food specialties in the area? Roasted pig knuckles or anything like that? I like baked pig knuckles. Not so much the boiled ones.

If you don't mind, I would like to join the sight-seeing a bit. 8) (I have never been in this area of Germany) But I think, it should be possible, to find some interesting locations.
Insider-infos would, of course, be much better.

Interesting could be:
Cathedral (Dom)
DIE GRÜNE ZITADELLE A building by Hundertwasser
Jahrtausendturm im Elbauenpark
http://www.magdeburg-tourist.de/media/c ... 1133278068
For those activities I found the "Magdeburg Tourist Card" (12,90 Eur) with wich you can enter almost everything for 48 hours. (Should be available in the hotel)

What I heard of is: "Haxen vom Flammengrill" as a speciality, what I presume will be some sort of pig, rostet on top of open fire.^^

Greetings,
Jens

You are more than welcome to join us, TigerRider, though it may get boring because at times I just like to sit and sketch a bit.

I'm very glad! And, as this will be vacation for me, sitting sounds good to me.^^ Sometimes silence is more exiting than running around...

Greetings from Trier,
Jens
