In the new episode of Hawaii Five-0 (titled "Na Me'e Laua Na Paio") a man in a superhero costume who is in Hawaii to attend a comic convention is thrown off the balcony of his hotel. When the Five-0 team checks out his room, they find a small pile of Dark Horse comics sitting out in full view with an issue of Usagi Yojimbo on the top of the pile.

Oh, that's nice.

In the series "The Big Bang Theory" you can always see a Usagi Yojimbo poster on the wall, when there is a scene in the comic book store.

A few months ago, Dark Horse had asked permission for Hawaii 5-0 to use an Usagi comic along with a few other of their books. I had written back that I was a fan of the original series when I was living in Hawaii, and had occasionally see Jack Lord at the market. Maybe that comment had spurred the producers to give Usagi a high profile.

I get requests to use Usagi as props every so often. It's usually used a set decorations and rarely visible, though. I think an Usagi comic was most visible in the movie Sydney White. He was also mentioned twice in an episode of The Middle Man. I later met the creator/writer Javier Grillo-Marxuach, and he is an Usagi fan.

It would make sense that they would want to use the work of a someone with a local connection to better authenticate the show.

I just watched this episode on the weekend. It was on my PVR :)
There were a few other darkhorse comics, but Usagi was right on top. You could see the whole cover. It was great.

MikeM - Who watched all of Sidney White just to see the Usagi Yojimbo comic appearance.
