How do you store your UY HCs?

Post by ratlas »

I have been storing my small UY hardcover collection in a Sentry fireproof safe as my bookshelf tends to accumulate too much dust and light for my liking. However I am now learning that these types of safes contain a high moisture level and aren't necessarily great for comic storage. Do you, dear reader, simply display your treasured HCs proudly on a bookshelf, in an acid-free comic box, or elsewhere? I'd be interested to know.

I keep mine on a standard bookshelf, and just make sure to dust them on occasion.

The dust never has the chance to settle too thick, because the books are repeatedly read and reread...

BTW, where would the moisture be coming from in your safe?

I don't know what size yur safe is, but you could place a moisture-detection device (an electronic one, they are pretty small) in it just to check out.

do you know those little packs with crystals in it, that were often used with worldwide shipped electronics, e.g. to maintain an anti-humid atmosphere inside the parcel?

maybe some of this kind could "dry" your safe?

greetings,

The Sentry Safe website FAQs mention that the materials they use to construct their fireproof safes contain a high moisture content, so in event of fire the moisture gets sucked into the safewell for protection. They actually say right on the website not to store things such as jewelry, stamps and other "collectibles" in their safes of for risk of ruination.

I considered throwing some dessicants in there to siphon off the moisture but ultimately decided my hard-earned UY HCs should be displayed right on my bookshelf after all. I slipped them into Golden Age size sleeves to protect against bugs and dust.

I have a bookshelf that is quickly becoming my "Usagi" bookshelf.
The top has some Usagi toys and the watch on display.
The top shelf has wave 1 of the Usagi Statues
The second shelf has the wave 2 Usagi Statues
The third shelf has my Usagi rpgs, hardcovers, etc.
The fourth shelf has trades that are similar to Usagi. Black Sad, TMNT, Mouse Guard, Mice Templar, etc.
