General discussion about Usagi Yojimbo, the comics, the stories, the characters, collectibles, TV appearances, Stan Sakai, Space Usagi, Nilson & Hermy, and all other related topics.
Would anyone who is planning on attending be so kind as to pick up the latest sketchbook for me and mail it? I believe it's Sketchbook 8, right? I missed the buying window earlier.

Stan Sakai “Making comics From a To z”
A step-by-step look at how cartoonist Stan Sakai creates an issue of his award-winning Usagi Yojimbo comic book series. This will cover getting ideas, story, thumbnailing, penciling, lettering, and inking.” http://www.longbeachcomiccon.com/_files ... amming.pdf
Of course, I haven't directly asked Stan if it would be okay to take a picture with him. Stan do you have time for a dojo picture? If so, do you have a preferred time?
If it's just Maichan, my two daughters and me, it should be able to be easy to schedule. But hopefully more folks can make it out.
Shane & Chris Houghton (Reed Gunther) are doing a panel with Richard Starkings from 12-12:45 and Womanthology (the most successful comics kickstarter project that raised $109,301 to publish the all women creators anthology http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ren ... y?ref=card ) are having a panel at 1:00 - 1:45 that I would like to attend. I prefer to meet before 12:00 or after 3:00. But I'm flexible.
How about taking a picture right after my presentation. It should be really easy or organize.
I'll be doing my standard presentation covering how I put an issue of Usagi together from story ideas to thumbnails to pencils and inks.
I'll have to leave the convention by 5:30, as we have the CAPS banquet that night and Al Jaffee is the guest of honor and will receive the Sergio Award.
Anyone who wants to be in the Dojo picture, just show up at Stan's panel and will take it quickly after. Maichan if you have a nice camera bring it. My point and shoot sometimes doesn't work lately. I'll ask someone to take a picture using my iPhone as a back up but you might have something better.
One of my favorite things in Mad magazine as a child was the fold-ins. I wanted to see was was going to appear. It was like magic. That is great that Al Jaffee is receiving the honor and award.

Peace, maka
I'll probably arrive around noon, and leave sometime after Stan's panel.
I have a camera - it works and takes decent pictures... of course I'll be bringing it.
Three things I remember about MAD magazine... Al Jaffee's fold-in and art of Sergio Aragonés and Don Martin!
Stan Sakai wrote:I've heard from a couple of people that UY 141 did not appear on the stands this week. Either way, I will have copies at the LB Con.
That's great news! When I learned issue 141 didn't come out this week I was a tad disappointed as I wanted to get it signed on Saturday... now it looks like that will be possible after all!
I'm back from the con, and I have to say it was great all around!
Great to meet Stan and get some books signed and have a quick sketch done.
Great to meet a few Dojoers. Here's a picture.... me on the left, Stan, Robert*, & Maka and his 2 daughters!
I'll post up some pictures of the books I got, and the quick sketch, but first I have to take Momo-chan to the park!
* Robert, what's your Dojo ID? I forgot to ask you!
Great meeting you and seeing Robert again. I thought Stan's talk went well. LBCC is small and new (3rd year). The Reed Gunther panel only had 9 of us (and my family made up four). The womanthology panel had more. But Stan's panel was the biggest. Thanks for taking the picture again!
Maka, it was a pleasure meeting you too. I wish we both would have had more time to talk. Maybe next convention?
I have more books for Stan to sign, and I have more books to buy from him too, so I'm certain I'll be going to Wondercon. This was my first convention, but definately not my last.
