Sketch Comission

Good day from the Philippines! I am a big fan of Usagi Yojimbo! I've been a follower since I was a child. I'd really want to visit the USA if Mr. Satn Sakai is going to any comic conventions. It would be a dream come true to have him sketch on one of my blank variant comics.

But if I don't get to visit, can I just send him a blank variant comic for him to sketch on? I would send it from a US address since I have many friends there, then he would send it back. I would pay via Paypal. I hope that would be possible.

Hope you reply, thanks!

There is a list of upcoming convention and book signing appearances listed here.

Any possibility one of your friends might be able to make it to one of the conventions for you?

Out of curiosity, what does the '70 at the end of your message stand for?

Hi! Thank you for the reply!

Sadly, my friends there don't share my love for comics. Does Mr. Sakai accept mail in? Like, I send him the comic, then I payl via Paypal, then he sends it back? Some artists I have contacted have done that. Anyway, '70 is just the name of my clique here in the Philippines :)

Usually, Stan Sakai prefers not to do mail order requests and sales. Due to your location, he might make an exception, if no other arrangements can be made.

Another option, if none of your friends are available to help out, is to try and make arrangements with other members of the forum here who might have plans to attend one of the conventions where Stan will be in attendance.

Several members have mentioned attending the upcoming WonderCon convention (March 16th - 18th) and you might be able to work something out with one of them, but it would have to be quick if you plan on sending a specific item to be drawn upon.

If you are able to find someone attending the convention to help you out, you could probably make arrangements with Stan Sakai directly (through the forum's personal message system) concerning what you specifically want drawn and how much it will cost, and also arrange payment directly to him for the commission.

I see. It probably wouldn't make it for Wondercon, but your suggestion is really helpful, thank you very much! I'll look around for peeps going to conventions :)

As Steve said, I don't do mail order sales, with the exception of one month a year when I sell the newest UY Sketchbook, so Dojo members don't have to pay those outrageous eBay prices. I don't have Paypay, either.

The best way to get a piece of art is at a convention where I will be at. Unfortunately, I have drastically cut back, or canceled, the number of cons I will be attending this year.

I see, thank you for you reply Sir! :) It's an honor to have a correspondence with you! Hmmm, that once a month UY sketchbook sounds great! So how much is it, how do fans pay for it, and when's the next time you'll have one? Sorry for the many questions :)

It is not once a month. It is a one month period every year--usually late spring/early summer. I am working on the sketchbook now. Hopefully, this one will have a step-by-step look at how I create a story, with a new UY story. There was a similar step-by-step in the 3rd sketchbook, but that one is sold out.
