Animals in UY Universe

Characters in UY are anthropomorphic animals. What are the animals depicted so far?
Rabbit- Usagi
Lion- katsuichi
tiger- mifune
Cat- Neko ninja
bats - another ninja clan
There are numerous foxes.

Panda - Lord Noriyuki
Snake (not completely anthropomorphic) - Lord Hebi
Pig - Zato-ino
Monkeys - Woodcutters (I think)
Dog - Stray Dog ( I find it funny that there are both anthropomorphic and regular dogs in Usagi's world)
Goat - Yagi and son.
I think Gunichi is some kind of boar.

Technically kappa as well, in a couple of stories.
Tomoe is a cat as well. And Noriko I suppose. Never been completely sure which species Sasuke and Sanshobo are meant to be, maybe Stan can chime in here. Sasuke another fox? Sanshobo strikes me almost like a bear actually, it's the ears.

I thought Jei (at least his first host) was supposed to be a fox as well.

I was thinking Jei was a Wolf. He looks different from the foxes.
But foxes are over represented. Sasuke, kitsune and a couple of others.

I always thought Jei was a wolf. On Sasuke's bio on the website, he's listed as a fox.
I have no idea what Sanshobo and Ishida are.

Hope Mr Sakai can share with us why he chooses certain animal for individual characters. E.g why a fox for sasuke?

Yes, I think I've read somewhere they initally were supposed to be humans, but Stan decided later they were actually monkeys.
